1850851 for some reason i'm having trouble remembering the name of a book that refers to previous life on mars. i read it years ago and if i remember correctly it had to do with huge growing trees that could reach to space and had some element of time travel involved. i probably remember at least part of this wrong but would appreciate a reminder of the plot and who the author was. thanks!

1934498 Rainbow Mars by Larry Niven. I'm a wealth of useless trivia.

1850851 oh i think you're right! a book of short stories by larry niven. if i recall some of them are really tongue in cheek or humorous.i enjoyed them a lot tho it's been a long time. thanks a lot for the reminder...will have to check them out again some time!

1934498 Yeah, I guess it wasn't too highly rated by most readers, but if I remember right it was fun to read. It's been a few years though, so maybe I should see if the library has it and try it out again. Have a good one.

1850851 i suppose you might be right about the sbook's popularity. although i pretty much enjoyed everything i read of niven's some were better than others. one thing i have to say about him tho, he had some really fantastic scientific concepts. many were totally mind-boggling!

361861 Ok, I read this book, might have been a series. I remember being confused as to who the good/bad guys were, it might have just been my young mind though. So anyway, there were two main groups of wizards, and one was like an outcast like group. There was a lot of gate like travel, and the reason why I got confused was because it seemed like the outcasts were the good guys until at some point in the story they might have been revealed to be the bad guys? Make any sense? I cant remember much beyond that, I do know that both groups had titles in a way. Please I hope someone knows this story so I can go back and read it and hopefully not be confused anymore.

930187 Perhaps someone can help with the title of a sf book from my youth - which was a very long time ago. Here goes: For quite a while I’ve been wondering about a book I read when I was in, I think, elementary school (i.e., before about 1958-59). So it was written before 1960, probably.

A man named Shakespeare (William Shakespeare, I think) is mistakenly kidnapped by aliens who think he is the playwright. He is taken to either Deimos or Phobos, a moon of Mars. Others in the same alien abduction are teenagers who have given the aliens reason to presume they are some other famous people whose names are identical. Of course there’s more to it, but that’s all I remember, and I could be mistaken about the teenagers’ names.

If this strikes anybody as even vaguely familiar, I’d love to hear!

Kathy
