2739057 Whenever I get to a part with William and battles I have no trouble putting it down.

1794972 You have more control than me. I thought the same thing but couldn't put it down from the start...

2739057 I bought my copy of Echo in the Bone (at Target) the week it came out but I have only been letting myself read a little at a time. I don't want it to be over too soon since it will feel like forever before the next one comes out. I know at some point I will be hooked and I'll finish it all and then that will be it until the next time.

693661 I think if you check out Diana's "Brotherhood of the Blade" you will find some of the other character's explained more thoroughly.

1730638 I agree with Denise that Echo may be my favorite is the series as well.

Discussion on the Outlander Series Group made reference that some of the characters that appear in Echo have been introduced in the Lord John Series. We all might want to check those out, so we know what is going on with all of the intrigue.

1794972 I finished the book this weekend and can't believe the number of 'cliff hangers' she left. I don't think she has had that many loose ends in any of her books making it very clear that there is another one in the making. I loved how she went back and forth between the different characters and times it really kept the story going. The last 200 pages were totally intense I couldn't put it down. LOTS OF OMG.... throughtout it. I think it was my favorite of them all but it has been a while with the others so maybe it is becuase I had been waiting so long to get caught back up wtih Clair and Jamie and the gang that I put it at the top of the list of her books.

On page 305, and loving it! It's hard to put down, but I try as I don't want to read it to fast and have it over to soon!!

971945 Janet, they had a guy in a kilt playing the bagpipes in Lexington, too. Everyone loved it. I'm only 100 pages into Echo, hoping to get some reading in today.

693661 I attended the book launch for "Echo..." in Phoenix, this past Tuesday, at the AZ Biltmore. It was great, Poison Pen Bookstore did a great job. They even had a guy in a kilt playing the bagpipes. Diana, as always, was superb. I'm only now beginning the book, the rest of the week was just too insane, and I'm loving it.

I think I did mention to her that she was awesome, Sherry. It was a great event, so glad I got to attend. Now on to the book.

971945 I'm leaving for Lexington in a couple of hours to meet Diana Gabaldon tonight. Yipeeeeeeee!

1730638 Got the book, and I'm lovin it!

message 29: by Wendy (new)

1730638 My copy of Echo was delayed a day becouse the warehouse didn't ship on time, but the store is going to let me have at 1/2 price. YAY!

message 28: by Kathrynn (new)

669573 Enjoy. If you get a chance, sweep back over here and post how it's going. K? :-)

message 27: by Sherry (new)

1294357 UPS just delivered my copy of Echo!!! I'm ready to be swept away!

message 26: by Kathrynn (new)

669573 Yes, that would be very cool. Enjoy yourself, Kathy!

message 25: by Kathy (new)

971945 I have to wait until Friday to pick up my book at Joseph-Beth Booksellers in Lexington, KY, and it costs me $31. However, since it comes with getting to meet Diana Gabaldon, I'm willing to pay the higher price.

message 24: by Kathrynn (new)

669573 I saw "An Echo in the Bone" this morning at Target for $21.00/on sale 30% off. FYI (Hardback)

message 23: by Kathrynn (new)

669573 Hi Susan, if you'll flip the date on this discussion to view the first post, I included the series--in order.

Today is the day. Saw that Barnes and Noble is shipping within 24-hours. :-)

message 22: by Wendy (new)

1730638 So far there are Seven books. The latest "An Echo in the Bone" comes out tomorrow the 22nd of September. Diana has said on her web page and in disscussion that there will be amie and claire to the 1800's.

message 21: by Susan (new)

2429588 How many books are supposed to be in this series?

I am currently listening to Outlander during my commute and have requested the next audio. I read these books many years ago when they first came out hence it feels like I'm 'reading' them for the first time!

She's going to be in Lexington, KY next Friday, the 25th. A friend, who has also read all of the books, and I are going up together, eat out, spend the night, and have a great weekend of it.

883725 That's neat Kathy. Where will you get to meet her? I had the opportunity to meet her probably more than a decade ago, and have the first three books of the series signed.

message 18: by Kathy (new)

971945 I can't wait for Echo, especially since I'm going to get to meet Diana Gabaldon on the 25th and get my book signed.

message 17: by Wendy (new)

1730638 Six day's 'til Echo!

message 16: by Wendy (new)

1730638 I have too felt that her books were not edited properly, there is a lot of repetition of things. I know that she writes in scenes, so things can get repeated, but you would think that they would catch that.

It was my understanding that she was not done writing until recently. I think I got that impression from her posts as well.

If anyone is interested in chatting with others about the Outlander series you can join the Outlander Group here on Goodreads, we would love to have you.

message 15: by Julie (Mom2lnb) (new)

883725 Hmmmmmm! I went back and looked at her posts. Her rant back in Feb. about Amazon listing a release date for her book didn't mention anything about not being finished, just that she hadn't even been given a release date yet. However she did say something about not being finished in her next couple of posts, so I guess I can see what you're saying. Hopefully, it will be good anyway.

message 14: by Kathrynn (new)

669573 I thought she was upset with Amazon for posting a release date on her book when she said, just a few months ago, she hadn't even finished writing it yet.

message 13: by Julie (Mom2lnb) (new)

883725 What exactly do you mean by fast Kathrynn? It's been four years since the last Outlander book was published, and from what I remember reading on Diana's website/blog, she was finished with the actual writing for "Echo" at the end of last year. It seems like 9 months would be sufficient time for editing, although I don't really know what the usual process is. Not that I can comment on the quality of the more recent books either, since I haven't gotten past Voyager yet.:-)

message 12: by Kathrynn (new)

669573 Saw an e-mail advertisement this morning from Barnes and Noble that shows "An Echo in the Bone" will be out Sep 22, 2009.

While I think it's great that a new book in the Outlander series is coming out, I also dread that it came out so fast. To me, it means it wasn't edited and I'm rolling my eyes at what that means as a reader.:-( Hope I'm wrong, but I've felt after the original "Outlander" her books have not been cleaned up (edited) prior to publishing.

message 11: by Manessa (new)

2177528 She also has a blog voyagesoftheartemis.blogspot.com She she is in what she calls the final frenzy and has sent part of the book to the editor.

message 10: by Wendy (new)

1730638 She better dang well finish it! Hello she has had five years!

sorry, I kind of went off there.

883725 Well, according to Diana Gabaldon's website, it's now official. The release date for An Echo in the Bone is 9/22/09. Although she did mention that she has yet to finish it.;-)

Point well taken:-) I live in a very small town in the Rocky Mountains so I do buy on-line occasionally. There's a small bookstore here also & I have bought a few books from them. The most recent one was a hard copy of "World Without End" by Ken Follett. The problem is, in our current economy, most people like to save money & prefer not to pay full price for their books:-)

693661 Beth wrote: "I also read what she said about Amazon.com & I for one appreciated her comments. It will make me stop & think before I order anything from them in the future. I know I've had luck buying toys at ..."

I completely hear how you feel about using the Amazon site. They can be a little on the presumptuous side; however, before you limit you book purchases to Borders website, please consider visiting independent book sellers websites. Almost every independent bookstore these days have a website, & trust me, every sale makes a huge difference to their bottom line. I used to work with an independent bookstore and I know how much, especially in these difficult economic times your business means to them.

message 6: by Beth (new)

1187159 I also read what she said about Amazon.com & I for one appreciated her comments. It will make me stop & think before I order anything from them in the future. I know I've had luck buying toys at Christmas but it feels like they're going a bit overboard to control the market. The last book order I placed on any website was with Boarders so I may continue to go there instead of looking at Amazon.

message 5: by Kathy (new)

971945 Yeah, Julie, I had read about DG's disgruntlement with Amazon on that, too, and that she hasn't announced a date yet. She sounded rather put out with Amazon. I am still hoping that she will manage to get it out sometime next fall, but I guess I'll just have to wait and see.

883725 Kathy, I wouldn't necessarily count on An Echo in the Bone being released in the fall. It's hard to say. Amazon has the publication date listed as Sept. 29, but in a recent post on her site, Diana Gabaldon pretty much said that they were full of it, because she didn't even have an official release date yet. I guess we shall see.

message 3: by Kathy (new)

971945 I'm on #4, Drums in Autumn, and loving it. I have 130 more pages to go. I'm reading them straight through, with #5 and 6 to go. Then, I'll have #7, Echo in the Bones to read next fall when it comes out.

669573 Many of my GR friends are reading this series now, and I'm even more inspired to dig out my copies and re-read them. I remember enjoying them SO much. Seem to be in a reading rut, right now...:-(

669573 Please feel free to talk about Ms. Gabaldon's books here, but be careful not to post information that would spoil a book for someone.

Please use the Diana Gabaldon ****spoilers*** topic to discuss a plot in-depth.

Thank you.
