Maybe I should be a cousin. I'm 19 and starting to get an age complex and the last thing I need is to be an aunt. =DDD
hey skip:if you use the "add event" option to set this puppy up you can have a running tally of everybody attending in one place, plus everybody who is attending will have a pretty little event on their page to look at longingly until the time comes. meanwhile you can use this thread to scheme, and conspire and plan. :)
we'll take a field trip to the best used bookstore everthat more than anything scares the shit out of me... a used bookstore, a bunch of ff's recommendations (in person!), a credit card, and weight restrictions in my transporter.
Ben wrote: "how did i miss the used bookstore last year? i don't understand. was i sleeping?"You didn't go? I thought you went when martyn and co. went.
It is a pretty awesome bookstore, I bought a lot of good stuff.

Where else is human nature so weak as in a bookstore? =]
Ticket bought. Hotel room booked (extra days of city adventure). Now, rental cars. Hm. Those things are damn expensive...! I may get a regularly sized one and just pack it to the gills for the Costco run.
Brian, what I did last year after spending more than I intended at the lovely used bookstore was find a post office and mailed the books home! Worked like a charm and was so exciting to get the package in the mail a week later like an extension of my trip! I am in for the Dork bought my plane ticket yesterday.
Shel I am also staying extra days so maybe we will end up doing some exploring together?
. . . so, we're missing some RSVP's down on the event page . . .if you haven't done it yet, stand up and be counted on the event list!
I need to know which airport is close to whatever your house or the Dorkplooza? I plan to get plane tickets this week before they become expensive.

booked my flights a couple of weeks ago - arrive on the 27th and will be spending the night in a hotel with Kerry. oo-er. are we all going to meet up at yours on the 28th, je? cannot wait! was only at your place for a day and a night, but it feels like home you guys were so hospitable.
i'm personally looking forward to drunk bingo.
. . . yeah, we can convene at my house the morning of the 28th . . . are you guys staying in seattle or on the island on the 27th?
Lara/Kerry -- I'm staying in the city the night of the 26th and 27th at Hotel Alexis (1007 1st Avenue), and plan to come out on the 28th - for the drive up and for the costco trip I promised to make...I haven't figured out exactly how I'm going to get the rental car, if I'm going to head back to the airport or if it would be cheaper to rent from an office in the city... and all that logistical bullshit.
All that is really just to say that I plan to go out to JE's on the morning of the 28th... so if a ride is needed I can help.

That would be awesome, Shel. Kerry? What say you? Ferry or comfy rental car for July 28th trip to The Island?

. . .as luck would have it, the alexis has a cute little bar called "the boosktore" . . .

. . . greyhound is 9th and stewart, so you'll be right on the edge of downtown . . .
Well. I will be spending some quality time at that bar, I think.I'm sure I won't be the only person downtown that day but as we get closer we will work it all out.
I will certainly volunteer to take as many people as I can out to JE's, but with the trip to costco I may not be able to fit more than one extra person on the way to Flagler.
*sigh* I really wish I was joining all of you. I guess it's better that I stay home and read Piers Plowman, The Canterbury Tales, and Paradise Lost about 20 times before I take that test at the end of the summer...One request -- drunken pictures of the drunken bunch!
Shel, Lara and I are staying at the Best Western Pioneer Square, 77 Yesler Way. Have no idear if that will be close to you or not!! I'm still debating myself whether I will rent a car. These decisions will come into focus as we get closer to the dates. I cannot tell you how excited I am ALREADY!!!
Esther wrote: "*sigh* I really wish I was joining all of you. Because if you were at the Dork you could talk about all of those works, probably with one person, and come away with a better understanding of all of them, plus the secret to eternal youth! Mua haha!
I think if we just keep everyone's addresses and cell numbers on hand we will be able to find each other. I have a couple of things I've been told to check out - like the erotic bakery, which makes cakes shaped like - well, erotic things - and a few other sights other than the original Starbucks.

Shel wrote: "Esther wrote: "*sigh* I really wish I was joining all of you. I guess it's better that I stay home and read Piers Plowman, The Canterbury Tales, and Paradise Lost about 20 times before I take tha..."You make a very good point, Shel. Trust me, it has crossed my mind.
People say I do make a good point occasionally. Clearly, you should explain to your professors the intrinsic and inestimable value of attending.
Has anybody noticed that weird looking car park building near Yesler? It looks like it is sinking. What's the deal with that? I really liked Seattle...that music museum designed by Frank Gehry is wonderful...

They in the middle of building a Global Music Instrument Museum here in Phoenix though. Pretty cool: http://www.themim.org/
I reserved my plane tickets for 7/27/09 to 7/30/09. I probably would need a room to stay if there any in your place, Jon? If not, let me know, so I can see about hotel or what nots. Probably will be trying to bum a pick up if any voluteers...
. . . not sure who all is staying at my house on the 27th, or whether the in-laws and my nephew will still be staying with us, but at the very least, there will be sofas available at my house for whoever needs them, and there's always the u.f.f. dork which has a comfortable bed . . .
Might have to leave your house door unlocked and hopefully someone left sobered at the dork. My flight does not come in until 11:25 p.m. If you can't, let me know as soon as you can...
. . .my only worry is i don't want to wake up the baby . . . also, you might have to hurry to catch the last ferry . . . since you're coming in that late, you may be better off getting a hotel somewhere near the airport for the 27th, and rendezvous with the downtown crowd the morning of the 28th . . .
Jonathan wrote: " . . .my only worry is i don't want to wake up the baby . . ."I love this. Might start calling you "Pops", Pops.
Pops
That's ok. He'll have at least a couple of women who will have to be convinced to stop holding the baby or doling out all manner of assistance.I plan to hold the little tyke as much as I'm allowed, anyway....
. . . well, of course i planned this long before i even knew we were preggers . . . i'm happy that owen will get to meet his great big lovely extended family right from the get-go!
It's looking less and less like I'll be able to attend, which is kind of ridiculous as I'm probably closer to the event location than everyone other than JE. If I can't make the event itself, maybe I can catch up with folk the weekend before or after?
. . . i've been a little tied up the last couple weeks, but i just want everybody to know that i'm stoked for the dork, and can't wait to see you guys, and can't wait for you to see how beautiful fort flaggler is . . .it is one of my favorite places, and will be extra special with you guys (and gals) . . . also, i'm itching to get that giraffe shirt on and let my wedding tackle air out a little bit . . .
It saddens me to say it but I won't be able to attend the Dorka this year. I will be moving across the country to start a job and can't show up there and immediately take time off. I am bummed I won't get to see everyone again and also bummed that I won't meet any of the first timers that I have known virtually for the past few years.
There is always Dorka '10. I will be there for that.
It won't be the same without you Dan! We will try to fit some deadpanness into the general conversation to honor you!!
Same here...I'm a no-show this year...and it also means I won't be visiting my sister who lives near JE...so it's double shitness...just moved to London, money's tight.Last year was fucking awesome...so you first timers are going to have a blast!
oh man, does this mean the hug store is going to be slow this year? . . . i'm guessing not-- i'll just have to dole out a few extras for everybody else . . .
Sorry dude, I'm quite depressed not to be attending...because last year was wonderful...really special...but I'm sure it won't be too long before I'm pestering you and all the FFers for hugs!
. . .i'm stoked to get to flaggler . . .since the bridge has been closed all spring, we haven't been out there yet this year . . .i'm jonesin' . . .bridge opens again in a week, so maybe i'll get a chance before the dork to go peek into the windows of our digs . . .
Is it too late to reserve one of the beds at the Flaggler? Do I need to sneak in the kitchen and camp out on the kitchen table?
My sister just emailed me my flight details. I hope my copies of knock make it here before the 20th of July. Thats when I'm heading to Houston. then I'm returning to Boston via Seattle. Very exciting.
