Julia O'brien | 3 comments Water for Elephants is an amazing story that takes place during the Great Depression. Jacob a boy who is finishing his last year of veterinarian school, at Cornell drops out after his parents die in a tragic accident. Left with nothing including a college degree Jacob joins the circus. Jacob becomes the circus veterinarian and he realises he is in love with Marlena. The only problem is that Marlena is married to the abusive circus boss. Jacob has to find a way to avoid loving Marlena for fear of losing his job or worse; being redlighted. Is Jacob able to hide his love for Marlena? I would rate this book a four out of five stars. This is because the story went into the future when Jacob was an old man and he seemed like he was miserable. This made me feel depressed when I was reading the book. I highly recommend this book.
