Happy Birthdays, and other Announcements
I'm so excited. I like birthdays. I like cake. I like presents. I like Mo. Today is Prophet Mo's birthday and tomorrow is Sweet Mo's birthday. If the Prophet's birthday can be declared a public holiday then I do believe that Sweet Mo's birthday should be a public holiday. I'm going to go to work... but I won't work in your honor.

Yay for Mo and all the work she has done for our new home. Look, she even hung the drapes. That's a lot of work for someone with a birthday coming! Wish we were there to celebrate with ya.
(This is where that send a cupcake app on FB would actually be kinda... nice to have. Because birthday candles and books don't go together so well...)
From the sounds of it Mo's birthday celebration last the better part of a week. I don't think I could handle that myself but I can think of no one more willing and deserving. Happy Birthday Mo.

hey you guys:thanks for keeping me company today! i was worried for a while there. just got back from birthday dinner -- i am stuffed with burrito goodness. and judging from this thread, i think i have been too free in my ecstasies over junk food. you're going to think i'm homer simpson! actually at one point several years ago i was worried i was turning into homer simpson: i got up in the middle of the night, murmured, "cookies", and went rummaging. not quite the same as staying up all night to eat an entire block of kraft singles (yes canadians call american cheese "kraft singles" in the same way we call macaroni and cheese "kraft dinner") due to my neurosis regarding brand names however i usually just choose to call them cheese slices. and since it's my birthday i hope it's okay that i rambled on for several sentences about nothing of much consequence. :)
Mo if your ramblings about cheese weren't so excusable I would surely shout Inexcusable! Inexcusable!

Mo, I will eat almost anything with goat cheese on it. Except maybe sushi. My kids make fun of me about it, even. Oh! There's a salad with goat cheese! We know what mom will order...

last night's pizza did not have a sufficient amount of goat cheese on it, so all of the slices i have eaten (the last three meals in fact) have all been the high ratio slices. now i am looking at my pizza in dismay and think it might be time to hit the grocery.
of course there's lots of nutritious spinach and broccoli on there too, but it's not what enflames the paroxysms of passion (thank you adrian and whomever that way he quoted the other day -- i love the word paroxysms almost as much as goat cheese :)

At my last dental appointment I had five cavities. My insurance "downgraded" my left upper molar to an amalgam. I found this hilarious (picture the group of dweeb insurance agents sitting around a conference table talking about which teeth to "downgrade.")
My dentist doesn't do amalgams though, so I had to pay the astronomical difference for a composite. Then my dentist gave me a sample bottle of mouthwash that she claimed would solve all my oral hygiene issues. Then the receptionist charged me $5 for the sample bottle. I was outraged, but numb and drooling, so I paid for the damn thing. When I got home, I compared the ingredients to Listerine and there was no difference.

i bought some goat cheese with peppercorns all around today. i had a hard time deciding. i am also crazy for feta, and make a mean spanokopita. :)
i'm so glad you shared about your dental appt. i was so afraid people would be shy about that. i can't believe your dentist "doesn't do" amalgams. is it because they aren't as good? or because they are cheaper? that seemss strange that you don't have the option. i had a similar filling a couple of months ago -- the insurance companies have decided that since people can't see that far back they don't need pretty fillings -- but my dental people just threw in some extra scaling to cover the difference in price of the fillings. we are expert in canada at getting medical attention covered. :P
of course, the most shocking thing is the 5 dollar sample. dentists already roll in dough and i can't believe they're siphoning another five out of you. i vote new dentist! :)
damn. you people are lucky with dentists like that. here they just yank out your tooth and tell you about it after you stop screaming. and we pay for that!and happy birthday mo! :D

I love feta, but I don't buy it often because the only good feta is made with goat's milk. The cow's milk stuff is shite. It's more expensive but the difference is noticeable.
I agree with Mo, it's time to find a new dentist. That sample thing would have been the last straw for me. My dentist gave me 4 toothbrushes, three samples of toothpaste and 2 containers of floss for free. I think that was to compensate for the 30 x-ray cards they shoved in my mouth earlier.
Damn, I'm glad all I ever had were braces (which was bad enough, I think). What's an amalgam?
Here's a totally superfluous announcement: I burned 867 calories in one hour yesterday. I'm pretty proud of myself for still being able to function afterwards.

hey, i see no reason not to extend my birthday for as long as people keep wishing me happy birthday and giving me presents -- i got anne enright's The Gathering in a birthday package from ireland last week from my pal richard who just got published (Where Clare Leads, Ireland Follows) recently.
brian: it sounds like your dentistry is similar to the kind my dad practiced on himself. with the pliers. good times. :)
and shel congratulations on burning all those calories. i have taken to checking my watts when i work out now -- i like to imagine myself as a light bulb. :P
today i am going to eat pizza and drink pop all for the low, low price of $2.25. i am addicted to coca cola zero now, after a brief flirtation with diet pepsi max with ginseng. :)

Today I got some compliments on my writing. That's all I've got for today...sorry. I'd give you a dentist story but I exhausted my dental insurance in the month of January for the entire year...I'm just THAT good. :/
I got some great compliments on my writing recently, too. Gives me the warm fuzzies just to think about someone taking the time to read it and comment. In the moments when I am doubting myself I just pop open those emails and I'm able to get it going again.
I think that for an unpublished writer, encouragement is so critical - not in an ego-stroking sense, but in a basic confidence in what you're doing sense.
I like this poem by Marge Piercy:

i'm glad to hear that i'm not the only cola zero addict in the bunch. and glad people are sharing happy announcements as well as dental appointments. :)my announcement is that i'm taking a break from the group for a while. i really need to focus on getting a job, and taking quizzes on facebook, so i'll check back in a week or so. looking forward to seeing lots of interesting posts when i get back. :)

My announcement today is I went by Cost Plus World Market and tis the season for Orange Blossom Cream Ale beer! Hooray! This is a great springtime beer, light and literal in it's orangeiness. I know oranginess is not a word but I don't care. I bought two six packs! Here's the link to the brewery for those interested:

Interesting...My announcement for the day? Urhm...my head hurts and my movies were due back to the rental place a few days ago and they're still sitting on my bed. I'll get to it Friday...
Orange Blossom Cream Ale was the first beer I ever had! Like a whole one to drink. My cousin put a slice of orange in the bottle. It was good.
Announcement:
I will be vacationing in exotic New Jersey from May 9th through the 16th. I will no doubt escape to the City as much as possible.
If any of you mid Atlantic types ever wanted to poke me with a stick or something, but have been unable to attend the Dork, this would be your best opportunity to do so.
What a good idea, to post destination plans... I think I might be in DC in the third week of June but it's iffy.
And, at some point later this year I will head to Minneapolis or Phoenix, probably both, to visit friends.
I will more than likely be in Mobile, Alabama from July 11-17, staying right on the grit riviera (the beach) with my mom and some of her friends... who are, incidentally, a very fun bunch of people, and no, I'm not just saying that because she's a member of our group.
So let's like totally crash my mom's beach house!
(And now, my mom will send me an email.)
I'm going to be in Salt Lake City next Thurs-Fri-Sat. Phillip and I are road tripping to see The Thermals there on Thursday night -yay!!Anyone in the area?

FYI. Happy Birthday to me this week; just moved up to the 54th floor. View is great. Also bought Deb a new car this week. Always a big deal bringing the new car home. We are going Diesel and hope to be able to compost our fuel within a couple of years. Go Biodiesel!
