1195532 I just found a book called The 47th Samurai by Stephen Hunter on the discount table at my local bookstore. I never heard of it. Has anyone else read it?

message 18: by Goran (new)

2049948 Mike, you were right: Ronin by William Dale Jennings - marvelous!

2049948 Just posted a review of Rain Fall by Barry Eisler on my website Liondogbooks.com - yes, it's a very cool martial arts fiction novel. Love it!

899270 Skulduggery Pleasant series by Derek Landy...it's more children's fiction but there's a lot of martial arts involved. Derek Landy is black belt at this martial art that I can never remember the name :P

2049948 Just read Sanchin and enjoyed it - I've posted a review on this site.

Someone else recommended John Rain, i will give it a try.

524297 The John Rain series by Barry Eisler is real fun to read also!

899270 I agree, Across the Nightingale Floor was one of the best reads for this theme!

message 9: by Goran (new)

2049948 Good for you! I will get a copy - is it available on co.uk as well??

message 8: by Karen (new)

2206048 Hi Goran,
Just to let you know, Sanchin went live on Amazon today. http://www.amazon.com/Sanchin-Karen-Van/...

message 7: by Karen (new)

2206048 Thanks Goran,
It should be available on Amazon from mid June all being well, but I'll let you know. Yes, Kyokushinkai :)

message 6: by Goran (new)

2049948 Congrats on the first novel karen! I wish you well with it. Let us know when it is available. Good title too - from Kyokushinkai I take it? :)

message 5: by Karen (new)

2206048 Well, they say you should never miss an opportunity for a bit of shameless self-promotion. My novel, Sanchin, is due out later this month. It's in the YA genre so probably not everyone's thing but it is martial arts related.

2049948 Cool, will check it out

414833 Across the Nightingale Floor was very good...the whole series was pretty solid.

My challenge with a fiction list is that I always find the non-fiction books about the martial arts experience to be better than the fiction. American Shaolin by Matthew Polly, Sword and Brush by Dave Lowry and Waking Dragons are among my favorites.

One fiction title that is among my all time favorite books is Ronin: A Novel Based on a Zen Myth by William Dale Jennings

2049948 OK, here's a tricky question. What are your top 5 books of martial-arts-related fiction?

Here's mine, but be warned, some of them are pretty corny:

1. Shogun
2. Tai Pan (yeah, I love James Clavell!!)
3. The Ninja
4. Black Heart
5. Across the Nightingale Floor

I guess I'm looking for some new suggestions!
