Nophoto-f-25x33 I heart booksale...the books there are really on sale...i was to fortunate to find hardbounds of the late Crichton...they are worth keeping

Each time i go for book shopping there, i'm in paranoia with lots of book around you in so little space...hope i could bring booksale home...

message 63: by miharu (new)

2169632 I love Booksale!

I've known so many authors there, and bought so many books at cheap prices.

My room is full of books from Booksale. I first started buying there when I got addicted to murder-themed books.

message 62: by kofie_hime (new)

2005471 Same here... i really love booksale. You can really find good books at book sale as long as you have the patience on looking for one. ^^. And also, i really love worn or second hand books. that's why i'd prefer buying at booksale. There are also some rare books that can be bought there that you won't find on any other bookshops...(since it's very old hhahaa).

748403 @maryse: Thanks! Drop by when you have cash to spare then. :) hehehe

message 60: by Maryse (new)

59091 nice site, Kayzee. I'm tempted to buy some of the books but I think I've already spent too much on books this month. Ehehehe

message 59: by Kayzee (new)

748403 Booksale has over the years given me great deals on books I've always wanted but either couldn't find at mainstream bookstores or were just too darn expensive. :) I bought Trade paperbacks of "The Life of Pi" and "The Memory Keeper's Daughter" at around 170 pesos and they looked brand new! You gotta love a good deal!

PS. Speaking of good deals, sorry to have to advertise but if any of you guys are looking for good deals, i'm selling my books (what little is left from a rummage sale I had a while back) at http://kzbookmaven.multiply.com. Drop by anytime!

1662951 Bookslae HP is one my hunting grounds... I'll go check it out though I'm much discriminating because I want a hardbound copy of that one... well if worse comes to worse I'll settle for a trade paperback edition...

message 57: by Maryse (new)

59091 I saw a copy of Captain Correli's Mandolin in Booksale HP and Booksale Makati Cinema square. That was 2 weeks ago though so I'm not sure if it's still there :)

message 56: by jzhunagev, Your Friendly Alien Assistant Moderator (new)

1662951 My latest find at BookSale are The Memory Keeper's Daughter by Kim Edwards and All the Pretty Horses by Cormac McCarthy...
Because of Rafael I too found myself haunting for a copy of Captain Correli's Mandolin...
Hope to find that book in the not too distant future... and the reviews I've about the book are good...

Thanks Danielle :)

400069 ha!
i like shakespeare too.
i spent hours reading his literatures in my college days and interpreting it.
but my teacher's deep interpretation with facial expressions, on his writings made those books more valuable to me.

2098789 I'm not sure. But napansin ko every month na sila sa amin dahil sa mga LitSoc (Literary Society) people. Hehe. I'll let you know if they will come this summer.:)

Ooh, I want to go there but it's a little far from where I live. Will they be at Ateneo this summer? I might stop by then

message 51: by jzhunagev, Your Friendly Alien Assistant Moderator (new)

1662951 Hey Zeitgeist bookstore looks cool though I'm too far from it... Right now I'm getting some of my books, particularly I'm on collecting Coelho books, from some of my suki from Recto University... Recently, I acquired Like a Flowing River for only php 170... half the price compare to NBS...

message 50: by Lucille (new)

1363295 Hey guys! I go to booksale. Most of the books I bought are classic ones: Much Ado About Nothing and Mid Summer Nights Dream by Shakespeare. I think I bought them for just P20 each. I also bought some cheap magazines. i like going there. But, if i really don't have money, I just go to power books or fully booked in serendra and read for free. hehehe... ;p

message 49: by Danielle (new)

2098789 To Rafael: Hey! my sister has a copy of "Captain Corelli's Mandolin" but I still haven't read it. Have you read yours? How was it?

message 48: by Danielle (new)

2098789 I found really great mangas such as "Gravitation","Furuba" and "Junjou Romantica" on booksale. I also bought John Grisham Novels at booksale and this interesting book about psychology called "Kokology 2". Hehe. I don't really go to booksale that much. It's only when I happen to be on a particular mall with Booksale in it. I usually save a part of my precious, "kaunting" allowance so I can buy books at NBS. Hehe.
Or you guys could try Zeitgeist booksales. Their stalls can be found at the Palma Hall in UP.But once in a while, they set up stalls in Ateneo. This summer, I think, mas marami pang booksale stores ang iseset up nila. I bought "Coraline" there for only 90 pesos, "Blind Willow, Sleeping Woman" by Murakami for only 200 pesos, "M is for Magic" by Neil Gaiman for only 200 pesos at "Lord of the Flies" for only 100 pesos. Go to Zeitgeist!Hehe:)

Huwaw Rafael. I so envy you. Great find! :)

1662951 it's docked on pier 1... the place is near Manila Hotel... just ask the guards there for directions when you have arrived inside the pier...

message 45: by Maryse (new)

59091 I think you go to the pier along Roxas Boulevard. I'm not sure exactly which pier number it is but you can ask the guards at the pier, I suppose. :)

message 38: by jzhunagev, Your Friendly Alien Assistant Moderator (new)

1662951 Yup.. it up to March 30 only... Mahal din yung books nila dun 100 units equals to 100 pesos... I just bought the expanded and u[dated version of 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership by my ultimate leadership mentor John Maxwell... It cost me 500 pesos but anyway the book is new and is not yet available in our bookstores here... another purchase is the the Purpose Driven Life which I bought for my mother...and some keys rings/key chains souvenir for my office mates... karamihan ng books nila about christianity and konti lang na fiction... so fiction buffs be wary baka manghinayang lang kayo... or dun sa mga gustong mag-usyoso me 10 pesos na entrance fee.. that's all hope you'll enjoy your visit there... nga pala nung pumunta ko dun maraming tao... by 3 rd of march cguro konti na lang kaso konti na lang din yung books bnyong mabibili kasi yung iba malapit nang masold0out tulad nga nung mga books ni John Maxwell... maramin rin pala clang mga children's books... well that's for now..

message 37: by Ria (new)

message 36: by Maryse (new)

59091 Hangang kelan sila here?
Shoot, I just spent my money on booksale kanina.
If you're going, can you tell us if maraming tao? I might go next week if they're still docked and if there aren't that many people.

message 35: by jzhunagev, Your Friendly Alien Assistant Moderator (new)

1662951 It's docked now there at this very moment... well after work I might drop by in there... and purchase a wwhole bayong of books.... ohhhhh yeah!!!! I'm smelling book binge!!!

message 34: by Maryse (new)

59091 I read in the newspaper that it was coming but I don't know when. Pumunta ako nung dumating siya last year pero ang daming tao eh.

message 33: by jzhunagev, Your Friendly Alien Assistant Moderator (new)

1662951 Hey have anyone of you head that Mv Doulos is docked at the South Pier here in Manila...?

message 32: by Violeta (new)

400069 hahahah

message 31: by Lynai (new)

1470974 The Booksale always makes me bankrupt. I think I'll avoid Booksale for the moment. :(

message 30: by Violeta (new)

400069 hehe. great description. archeologists of books

message 29: by Dennis (new)

1247638 I love bookSale! I feel like an archaeologist looking for rare items, every time I visit it.

message 28: by Violeta (new)

400069 its just semantics...

hehe

message 27: by Sapphire (new)

1871678 I thought of that too.

message 26: by jzhunagev, Your Friendly Alien Assistant Moderator (new)

1662951 Of course my question is addressed to all members of this group... either male or female...

message 25: by Violeta (new)

400069 Yes....
I agree. Kahit hindi ako guy.

message 24: by jzhunagev, Your Friendly Alien Assistant Moderator (last edited Mar 02, 2009 12:42AM) (new)

1662951 Yup... Minsan naisip ko na hindi pinipili ng tao ang librong babasahin niya... libro ang pumipili sa taong babasa sa nilalaman niya...
Haven't anyone was struck by the idea that the book that we currently read reflects our present life's status quo? What do you think guys?

message 23: by Sapphire (new)

1871678 Ah! I often go there but I don't remember seeing the book you were talking about. Swertihan lang talaga. Hehe. ^_^

1871678 Bookstore in Ermita? Saan doon? Hehe. Lapit ko alng sa Ermita. I wanna check it out if ever I haven't been there yet.

message 20: by jzhunagev, Your Friendly Alien Assistant Moderator (last edited Mar 01, 2009 07:55PM) (new)

1662951 Well, the inside is still in mint condition... though the dust jacket have a few tattered edges... but the main catch of all is printed in the book's copyright page is First Edition but all in all the whole book is still in good condition...
It costs only Php 250...

message 19: by Charles (new)

2062468 wow..you got a book Beloved the hardbound?thats cool..how much is it?.your so lucky jzhunagev..

message 18: by jzhunagev, Your Friendly Alien Assistant Moderator (last edited Mar 01, 2009 04:56PM) (new)

message 17: by Aubrey (new)

1784336 Haha. So many books, so little money :D

I love BookSale too. The one in SM South doesn't have much to offer though... mostly reference books. But I can always find something there that I can't seem to find anywhere else.
Where do they get their books? Donated ba?

message 16: by Maryse (new)

59091 Oi, saan yan? I'd like to go there ah. I'm also looking for a nice copy of "Beloved" -- first edition or not. I don't want to buy in National Bookstore and I found one in Booksale but it's paperback and too expensive for rather dilapidated copy. :(
As for first editions, I have some out of luck but I don't think they're worth anything. Ung Harry Potter first edition lang yata ung worth holding on to in my collection. Ehehehe
