Okay, fine. I'm Marco. I'm 14. I used to live in the Philippines but my parents and I moved to England about 4 years ago.I'm studying here at school in a place called Ashby-de-la-Zouch. The school is called Ivanhoe Specialist Technology College. At school, there are students who help run the school library called Student Librarians, of which I am a member. So I get to see books everyday at school. In the Philippines, in the humdrum of school, I didn't really like reading, anyway the school library in the Philippines will only let you borrow the book for a day - overdue books cost 10 pesos each day that it hasn't been returned.
Moving to England, where libraries allow 3 weeks for returning books :), my love for reading bloomed and so here I am, in GoodReads. With fiction books, I like fantasy or science fiction, maybe some humour and horror as well. I love reading books with words from other languages in; I love reading about the culture of different places.
Paulo Coelho's The Alchemist had been my favourite book last year, with some Arabic and Spanish words and recently, I've been engrossed in Brisingr, the 3rd in the Inheritance Cycle. The words are obviously made-up but they still bring a light to my day when I see another "foreign" word. =) You can say I'm a xenoverbophile (my made-up word =).
Okay, your turn!

OK!!!
Isang akong realist fiction at magical realist fiction reader...
Ryan Secreast out..... ^_^
Oh. Okay...mag-iisip muna ako kung papano ko ipakilala sarili ko...*scurries off to her room to think*
hi there...am a newbie here...
i think am goin to love this site..
am avid fan of the twilight saga and i love to read novels about vampire..
how did it started? okay so heres the thing.
when i was a kid i was so fond of playing with bats..
my mom always scolding me becouse i used to put this tiny little creatures in my room and when she's going to inter my room these bats fly accross her hair..she used to scream and shout this words "charles van!!!your always freaking the shit out of me"..heheh..i can still remember exactly her reactions when she got in to my room.. but i love my mOm..am just quite mischievous back then..
theres a lot of bats between our house and the fire wall..even now we cant get rid of them..but thier nice its just that the shit of them stinks..hehehe..
then my granny visit me one afternoon and caught me playing with one of my so called friends(the bats)..
and just like the usual granny of ours told me a story about the bats and how its was link to vampires..i was so fascinated of her story but after sh told me about it i ceased playing with the bats becouse i was afraid of bloodsuckers though these bats never suck my blood..then when i got to high school she sends me of books about vampires..and thats how it'started..heheh..until now i collect books about vampire and of course fiction novels..
i was worndren' vampire fan din siguro c Granny.. that why i inherited her the fond of reading stuff about vampire..
filipino books are somewhat rare to me..ang bobo ko sa Filipino and am so damn slow when reading these national language of ours..i dont know but i never used to read such..pero sa ngayon kaylangan ng magbasa kasi we Filipinos have to be broad when it comes to what we are reading..yan yung sabi ng isa kong professor so since am obedient am trying to read such...am currently reading books of bob ong..hehhe..ka2tuwa na man..
well more books to come guys..

Hope you'll have fun here :)
thanks Maryse..mMmh am really having fun here while reading the Paolo Coelho's The Alchemist..
by the way may i ask..
what is it being a moderator here?am just curious..
Marco seems so active in here..
can you tell me some more about goodreads?
Charles, a moderator is the one who manages this group. But I guess our moderators are the ones who could best tell you about their roles. :)
Ann - tunay na pangalan
I work in the IT industry. I spend at least 3 hours everyday commuting. That's what you get when you live in Malabon, work in Taguig and refuse to rent a place much nearer to work.
I LOVE Neil Gaiman. I my book, he can do absolutely no wrong. I got into goodreads because of Neil Gaiman.
I'm uber jologs. I love John Lloyd Cruz and Piolo Pascual =)
My fave books include HP Series, Neverwhere and The Alchemist. I loved the Vampire Chronicles by Anne Rice as well. Twilight? ehehe.. next question please. Finally a reason to squeeze in that book that I received last Christmas.

Finally, someone I can relate to!
Halimbawa:
a. You filled my mind. (Hindi kita maiwaglit sa aking isipan.)
b. I saw you.
Me Not), Noli Me Tangere, Ibong Adarna at iba pa.
I'm Angeli (not my real name... because I don't give out my real name on the internet) :D
I'm 16, currently in 4th year HS here in the Phil. Right now all I have to take care of in school is our oral defense for our thesis and then after that we're all pretty much relaxing 'till graduation (puro practices nalang).
I don't like reading books that are "mainstream" like Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, the Twilight series, etc. I don't like it when books are turned into movies either. I like historical fictions and family-oriented tragedies :D. My favorite author is Jodi Picoult. I hate romance novels. As for Filipino works, I'm a fan of Bob Ong and Jessica Zafra. I also liked Noli me Tangere and El Fili (required reading sa school eh :D pero maganda talaga yung kwento).
nice to meet you all :D
anne...same here..i love Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles..hehe..hope you do like here in good reads..have fun...
welcome in goodreads Angeli and Violeta..mga mabubuting mamamayan ng aTIng bansa..:)keep it up..
anne...same here..i love Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles..hehe..hope you do like here in good reads..have fun...

Bisaya ka, day? I'm impressed -- ang galing mong mag-tagalog. I grew up here in Manila and I can't even write like that. Ironically, I always used my mom as an excuse for my poor Tagalog -- bisaya din siya eh and nahihirapan siyang mag-tagalog. :)
its really cool here oh dearest Ann.. same here..am so slow in reading Filipino books but am trying to read such books lately...shame on me if i dont read such, naturingan pa naman akong Pinoy..hhehhee..
yOOoohOooo Violeta..your so cool...
Hehehe.
Charles, Maryse, Jzhunagev, Marco... maraming salamat.
Be happy...
Nice learning about the people in this group. I just realized that I haven't really introduced myself yet, though I'm not really new ^^;I'm a fresh graduate, already working, but my mentality is still of a ten year old's. Haha!
I have a lot of fandoms. I love to read books or comics/manga, and watch cartoons/anime or tv series/drama or movies. I am also into drawing, blogging, cross-stitch, etc.
My parents think I have colonial mentality because I don't adore much local actors and actresses nor do I stay tune on local movies or tv series, but honestly it just so happened that many of the contemporary local media are . . . not my type.
I read books in Filipino. I prefer them in pure tagalog/filipino, but not too deep because my vocabulary sucks. Though I speak/converse in taglish, I hate reading novels or watching shows/movies/dubs that are in taglish (unless there's no tagalog equivalent). I don't know why but I find it annoying.
Back to my likes . . . my tastes vary so much which makes me watch or read a little of everything. I mean, I don't only focus on the romance genre, or just young adult ones, I like almost all genres! Though of course there are ones which I didn't appreciate and I am not afraid to voice out my . . . disgust . . . towards such media. However, I don't bash fans. Our tastes differ, as simple as that. We should respect everyone's opinions ^_^
Alright, that's all. I look forward to making some friends from this community =)
"I'm a fresh graduate, already working, but my mentality is still of a ten year old's. Haha!">>> I think i am going to like you Sapphire... although we cant be cinema partners. I felt my academic life immersed me to serious paradigms that's why im shifting to lighter movies... for fun. I'd prefer to feel kilig and to chuckle over simple things than on serious matters. I'd like to be a 10-year old child again... for the record... although last night, i watched "The Day when the World Stood Still'"
Made me wonder if its possible to be in love to an alien with an eye that can put off all lights and all satellite-based devices?
Haha
Feel happy here.
This barangay is filled with happy people. Very Filipino although they are speaking English.
I'm not really a newbie but I haven't had time to introduce meself either. I'm Maryse, med student by day and writer/illustrator/movie addict/internet addict by night. I adore stories, fiction or not, silly or intellectual, so long as it feeds my over-active imagination.
Most of the books I've read are classics, although I've just recently started reading more mainstream books like "Harry Potter" & the best sellers. I love horror stories, so naturally I'm a big Stephen King fan. I like nonfiction horror stories, though, vs fiction.
I generally don't like romances, but thanks to my cousin's influence, that's starting to change now. Ehehehe
I like dystopian/utopian stories, morality tales and what not. Don't really know why, but I really enjoy reading them. Hence, most of my favorite books then to be dark ones like "A Clockwork Orange", "A Handmaid's Tale" & "Jurassic park". I also enjoyed "El Fili", even though I honestly didn't like "Noli".
Unfortunately, I haven't read much Filipino books. I''m hoping with our upcoming Filipino book club, that will change too. :)
I'm with Sapphire -- I don't like it when they dub TV shows taglish. I miss the days when they dubbed shows in pure Tagalog. It sounded better in straight Tagalog.
A little off topic, but it's funny that some schools insist in putting more emphasis on English than Filipino. Sure, it's helpful except when you go to Med school and have to talk to patients who speak deeper Filipino than you. They have all sorts of names for all the different body parts and ailments that I haven't even heard of. At least, my Filipino is improving thanks to them. :)

I'm happy to get to know you.
How should I describe that? Language barrier or communication gap? Or, our school is too busy attuning our minds to the needs of foreign lands
that we forgot our needs...
I'm honestly nanghihinayang that many of our Filipino doctors, specially the bright ones, would leave our patients here to serve the patients of the other countries.
In my school in the Philippines, if you talk in Filipino during any lesson apart from Filipino and Geography, you get punished :P It's a weird system but it gets everyone to speak English.
right. i remember we pay P.25 cents per word. i didn't realize its actually part of Americanization. hehehe
