1453659 I saw this game on another group and thought it looked like fun to do here. :-)

We start out with a book title like:

Wicked Game (by Jeri Smith-Ready)

The next person needs to use at least one word in that title for the next book's title. Like:

Hunger Games (by Suzanne Collins)

The rules are:
1. The book titles need to be real titles (please include the author's name)

2. We can make one of the words from the earlier title into a plural or a singular (as in the example above, GAME into GAMES)

3. The word from the previous title we use could be part of a longer word (eg. the word GAME could be part of a book title with the word GAMEPLAN in it)

4. We can't keep repeating the same word (as in the example above, we can't keep using GAME again and again) - Maximum is TWICE in a row unless you can mix it up.
Example: 1. Wicked Game, 2. The Game, and instead of using "The", you could have 3. The Gamer's Guide to ...

5. You cannot use "an", "and", "of", "the", "in", "on" "is" etc. for your connector word with the previous entry EXCEPT if the title only has 2 words and the other word has been used twice.

1453659 Okay, I'll start with:

Time Traveller's Wife (by Audrey Niffeneger)

580431 Jayne, one of my favorite books!

American Wife: A Novel (by Curtis Sittenfeld)

message 4: by Sans (new)

1451884 Revenge: A Novel (by Stephen Fry). Hah!

1453659 Well done, Sans! A book you are currently reading by your fave guy. :-)

The Idiot Girl and the Flaming Tantrum of Death: Reflections on Revenge, Germophobia, and Laser Hair Removal (by Laurie Notaro)

1453659 Okay I totally looked that one up! LOL Hey, that's not against the rules. :-) I couldn't resist the title. Lots of words to choose from there, peeps!

1470938 The Idiot. Fyodor Dostoevsky

I've read this. I love it. And it's easy because you have to use The.

1453659 The Princess Bride (by William Goldman).

Absolutely LOVE the movie! Still haven't read the book.

580431 The Constant Princess (by Philippa Gregory)

I haven't read it, but I like Philippa Gregory.

message 10: by Viola (last edited Feb 25, 2009 03:47AM) (new)

1147290 Princess Ben by Catherine Murdock.

I haven't read this, but I have read Dairy Queen by this author. So good!

And, I don't mean to hijack this thread, but the "in my pants" game that Hank and John Green play is fun. You say a book title but it always ends with "in my pants."

Like...

Great Expectations in My Pants.
Or
A Thousand Splendid Suns in My Pants.
Water for Elephants in My Pants.
Cocktails for Three in My Pants.

Sorry. I find this to be VERY amusing.

1451884 I could be cruel and say "Ben-Hur", but I'll be nice and go with:

Ben Franklin: America's Original Entrepreneur (by Blaine McCormick)

580431 I Am America: And So Can You! (by Stephen Colbert)

message 14: by Lady Jayne (new)

1453659 The Five People You Meet In Heaven (by Mitch Albom)

Viola, hmmm...adding "in my pants" to this one gives it a whole new level. LOL! :-D

In fact, adding "in my pants" to Jenn's title above is pretty good, too. ;-)

Oh! And thanks for being nice, Sans! :-)

message 15: by Lady Jayne (last edited Feb 19, 2009 03:18AM) (new)

1453659 You know... referring to Sarah's book title in Message 7 and Viola's suggestion, The Idiot in My Pants would be a real eye-catching title. :-)

1453659 "Advanced" Fairy Tales on Trial (by Janis Silverman)

Coming from of a law background, this looks really interesting, and so does Fairy Tales on Trial. Looks like a good educational tool, to me. I'd like to look into it for when I have children.

1451884 Engine Management: Advanced Tuning (by Greg Banish)

1066511 In Tune with Wedding Bells - Grace Livingston Hill.

I love Grace Livingston Hill... I love how her books were written in the early part of the century and they just keep reissuing them with "updated" covers. The 70s covers are particularly entertaining.

And, my friend Jesse adds "in my pants" to EVERYTHING.

1470938 Stuff White People Like, Christian Lander

Ok I know it sounds kinda racist...but the description of it on Amazon is HILARIOUS.

“A handy reference guide with which you can check just how white you are. Hint: If you like only documentaries and think your child is gifted, you glow in the dark, buddy.”
