I just finished, "That Holiday Feeling" by Debbie Macomber, Sherryl Woods and Robyn Carr. Nice holiday stories. "Under the Christmas Tree" by Robyn Carr is part of the Virgin River saga, #8. Enjoyed it the most. :-)
I posted this over at the RSL group, but I'll add it here...Robyn has a new newsletter up on her site with great news about the VR series:
September News from Robyn Carr
I realize you don’t get newsletters from me as often as you should. There are two significant reasons. First — I don’t want to waste your time reporting that I walked the dog, went on a family holiday or gained ten pounds. The second reason is more important — I have a million books to write! And I’ve been working at it — I promise. Based on the number of daily letters I get (and thank you! and keep ‘em coming!) you want to get back to Virgin River!
The community of Virgin River has become much loved by readers, and no one is more grateful than I am. MIRA Books, my publishing company, is also pleased and, after the 2009 Virgin River series spent twelve straight weeks on the New York Times Bestseller List, they wasted no time in planning for more. This thrills me — personally and because I know it’s important to you.
For the next three years, beginning in 2010, every January, February and March, we will release three new Virgin River novels. In addition to that, there will be novellas published that will take place in Virgin River or nearby but don’t have to be read in any sequence; stories that will include your friends but not a part of the ongoing story. The first novella is to be released in September in a story titled "Under the Christmas Tree" in a special Christmas anthology — THAT HOLIDAY FEELING also containing holiday novellas by Debbie Macomber and Sherryl Woods.
But there’s more. Over the next couple of years, there will also be two mainstream novels — what I prefer to call women’s fiction or “girlfriend books,” that are along the line of THE HOUSE ON OLIVE STREET. There is whispering of THE HOUSE ON OLIVE STREET being reissued and I’m crossing my fingers — the complexity of women’s lives and their relationships with their men and each other has always been a passion of mine. And writing stories with ensemble casts of characters is enormous fun.
Next month I’ll put the covers and opening chapters for the 2010 Virgin River novels — FORBIDDEN FALLS, ANGEL’S PEAK and MOONLIGHT ROAD — on my website. For now — the cover of the Christmas anthology will go up, which will be available September 29. I hope you enjoy it — it’s a happy story, filled with love and laughter and a couple of characters who will pop up in future Virgin River novels from time to time.
This has been such a rewarding journey, and so much of it has been because you let me know what characters have inspired you, and helped you with your own issues, and which characters you want to see more often. Of course I can’t fulfill every wish you send my way, but rest assured, I read and consider every one. And I thank you from the bottom of my heart.
Please watch my website for new books, covers and excerpts, and check out the appearances page to see if I’ll be in your neighborhood. I’d love to meet you.
With love and gratitude,
Robyn
HI guys,I'm reading Catherine Anderson's Kendrick/Couture Series and I absolutely love it. I'm looking for something similar. Is the Virgin River Series a good comparison?
Beverly, welcome and I hate when I go to buy a book and find out I already got it. Now that I have my "to read" shelves on GRs, that doesn't happen...much.
Thanks Pamela and Auntee for the kind welcome. Believe it or not i went to Amazon to order Virgin River and the site told me that i had ordered it back in 2007. Now just have to find it in the boxes of books that i have. Reading some of the older post Amazon owed it to me to tell me. On the same order i was "locked in" on a Harry Potter book for my son. It was on the shelf's everywhere and he wanted it so bad and was having to wait.
Welcome Beverly! If you're a fan of Robyn Carr you will LOVE the Virgin River series--definitely start with the first one and read in order.:)
Ok new to this group but long time member(lurker) on this site. I have been a fan of Robyn's for a while but never started the Virgin River series. Have most of the books except Virgin River, Second Chance Pass and of course Paradise Valley. I will admit to being a serial reader (glad i didnt say killer haha). Should i get Virgin River and read them in Order? Any suggestions please?
Hey, in "Temptation Ridge" on page 48 when Shelby and Vanni are talking bout a movie Muriel starred in ("Never too Late") that was one of Robyn Carr's earlier books. A very good book, too. It was never a movie though. Has anyone read it?
I thought these books sounded good to,so i just ordered them from amazon. Cant wait,i love to get new books from new authors that i havent read,im always looking for new books to read.
After reading the posts y'all wrote regarding this series I have become hooked and ordered the first 5 in the series. If all goes well with the post office hopefully I'll be starting "Virgin River" come mid next week.
Thanks for the informative posts and recommendations, if not for you I'd be missing out on some terrific reading and emotions.
A little bird whispered in my ear that there this was at my local B&N store...thank you little bird! :-)
I got my copy of Temptation Ridge today. I, too, had been checking the Barnes and Noble Website, and according to my zip code it said Out of Stock...I went ahead and called last night just to make sure. and THEY HAD IT!!! So you might want to call, just FYI.
I'm back! With my nice new copy of "Temptation Ridge!"I got the last copy out on the shelves.
Can't wait to start. I'm currently reading JQ's "Mr. Cavendish, I Presume"...but I'm gonna set it aside and start "Temptation Ridge."
You're just EVIL!, Auntee!I looked at Wal-Mart today and they didn't have it.
And...oh, crap! I just checked B&N's zip code thingy last night or this morning and it was listed as out of stock. Now I just check and it says it is in stock.
'Scuse me...gotta go...
Based on my previous post, I felt "locked in" or committed to my purchases. They had me. But not quite.I couldn't stand the wait, so after seeing them at Walmart for several days, I bought the books (they were cheaper, too) and when my books finally arrived from B&N, I returned them with a letter as to why.
It took them a long time to refund my money, but they did.
Also, reading the fine print on the return policy they now say customers have 14 business days to return based on the shipped date.
Good thing I got right on it. They indicated my books shipped December 30; however, UPS did not begin moving them until January 4 or 5 due to the holidays.
Frustrating.
On December 17th, I placed an order with B&N for books that showed to ship within 24 hours even though they were set to release on December 30...They didn't mail my books until December 30 even though they indicted a ship with 24 hours AND (the really hard pill to swallow) those books were on store shelves a few days before December 30th and I was still waiting for mine...which didn't arrive until January 9th!
Ticked me off.
Ya know, I wonder if B&N is doing that to get out of having to give the additional 5% discount for pre-orders...
Haven't spotted it on the shelves yet, but just saw that B&N online has it available now (although it says 'shipment in 2-3 days, so be warned).
I can't wait for "Temptation Ridge." Auntee and I have been scanning our local bookstores to see if it comes out early like "Second Chance Pass" did...so far no luck.If anyone spots in on the shelves, please try to post here, so we all know it's out...pretty please....:-)
Isis, I agree with you. I want to read any Virgin River book, but can't wait for Paradise Valley. Not only will we finally find out about the Brady guy, but this one has Rick's story. The books in the Virgin River series are currently my favorite contemporary romances.
Who is excited for the next Virgin River book by Robyn Carr? I'm really looking forward to the next book (Temptation Ridge), but I'm even more excited about Paradise Valley. I can't wait to read about the Shady Brady guy...I'm so curious about him!
