1166414 I found some articles on the will of Andre Norton and how it is in dispute. She had no children or close relatives, so her estate was left to a lifelong friend and fan of her writings (Dr. Victor Horadam, who was named as beneficiary of “the royalties of all posthumous publications of my works) and included also her caregiver (Her will named Ms. Stewart, as Executrix as well as the beneficiary of the residuary).

Questions arose as to what constitutes the “royalties from all posthumous works.”

Some details from a law blog explains:

The alleged ambiguity in the will is the meaning of the term "posthumous publication" -- does it mean the publication of any of her books which occurs after she dies or does it mean only the publication of books which were not yet published at the time of her death?

A Tennessee judge has held that "posthumous publication" means any publication of her works that occurs after she dies, including reprints of books that were originally published before her death.

Andre also stated on her will that she wanted to be cremated with a copy of her first and last books.

1166414 The rights to the Andre Norton estate has finally been settled and now the movie rights to the Witch World 1 are being considered.

695116 It really sucks that our legal language is so poor that we can't even figure out what a simple bequest means. I hear NY state has 22 legal languages & someplace in TN is suing to make English the only legal one. Makes sense to me, if only because we have so much trouble with just the one.

1166414 Aye Jim, so much problems always with wills, specially when they are worth something. At least Grand Master Andre Norton will always be remembered during the Nebula Awards for the 'Andre Norton Award for Young Adult Science Fiction and Fantasy' which are in her honor.
