I'm going to pick up the Exchange Artist for our get-together on March 8th. I've been meaning to read it for ages, and it is more and more (and more) a propos.
I just finished
Water Dogs by Lewis Robinson and loved it. I'll try to make it to the 3/8 gathering to give it another plug
I like the idea of reading local books, but I haven't read any recently. I will gladly read one for a future meeting.
The last three books I have read:
The Devil in the White City Murder, Magic, and Madness at the Fair that Changed America,
The Pillars of the Earth,
Cathedral The Story of Its Construction.
Currently reading:
The Time Traveler's Wife
and
How to Read Novels Like a Professor A Jaunty Exploration of the World's Favorite Literary Form
I just finished _The Paradise of All These Parts_ after seeing it listed here. I was planning to attend the get-together on the 8th but have a conflict for that evening. If it started an hour earlier, it would be worth travel into the city but to be there only an hour seems so short.

I too love reading books with a local flavor, hence, living near Salem MA, I recently read "Heretics Daughter" and "Lace Reader". Much preferred the first, and liked the different approach to the Salem witch trials.
Scott, we seem to have similar tastes in books. I thought "Devil in the White City" was awesome - simply fascinated by the story behind the creation of the Chicago World's Fair; in fact, the author could have left out the fictional portion ...
"Pillars of the Earth" was quite enjoyable, especially after just having returned from Italy and seeing some of those cathedrals (duomos) up close!
"Time Traveler's Wife" ... well, I shall wait until you are finished to comment.
Happy reading ;o)

Which portion would that be? Larson cites his sources and quotes in the back of the book.
