5 Star Reads
My recent 5 Star reads are...1. Outlander and Voyager in the Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon
and
2. The Book Thief
and
3. The Shadow of the Wind
Others are:
The Host
The Woman in White
Pride and Prejudice
Okay right now my 5 star books are a series. The Mommy track mysteries by Ayelet Waldman. They are a fun and addicting cozy mystery series.I am on the 4th one.
I don't really give that many five stars. Four and three stars though, I do.My most recent though was Jane Eyre. Loved it so much. Such a fantastic reading experience as well. I read it in October and I remember that I had exams to do and I just couldn't waaaait for the exam to be over, not because, well, then I was done, but because then I could go back to the book and finish it :)
I think I give them too easy. But I feel really bad if I don't. I need to re-adjust some of my stars.I feel guilty if I give it less then a 4, in case you know... it feels unloved.
(Just re-adjusting some now actually.)
Anyway - definite 5 stars for me are:
1. I Capture the Castle by Dodie Smith
2. Fallen Angel - the omnibus of Andrew Taylor's The ROth Trilogy
3. Howl's Moving Castle, Dogsbody in particular by Diana Wynne Jones
4. The Arthur Trilogy by Kevin Crossley-Holland especially Gatty's Tale which follows on. Book 1 is a 5 star though 2-3 only four stars.
5. The Stand by Stephen King
6. Across the Nightingale Floor and the rest - just all of the Otori series by Lian Hearn.
Well tht's it so far, I'll add more when I come across them.
I've been seeing a lot about The Stand lately, and its got me excited to read it. I'll have to bump it up closer to the top of my TBR pile.
Yes yes yes! I only read it in September but I really wanna read it again anyway. I just know that despite the length it's one you can read over and over. But I'm not, my tbr is too shameful and one re-reading of ICTC as I have promised myself is enough.
Yes, think Kandice said she would if someone else didn't... hey wait maybe I should start the thread? Uhm. Shall I? Unfortunately I won't be able to start with you less I get of this flaming website and read my blasted book! But I will be discussing and re-reading it asap!

I gave a five star to Dewey: The Small Town Library Cat Who Touched the WorldKaren Kingsbury I have given many of her books five stars.
Apparently I RARELY give five starts: 24 out of 803 books (excluding the complete works of Calvin & Hobbes)?!?!. But I just finished Jealousy for the winter challenge & it is probably going to get a 5.

I am only going to put my 5 stars for 2009. Too lazy to go back and look at the others :) Mystic River: by Dennis Lehane
Snow Flower and the Secret Fan: Lisa See
Kite Runner:
Last Lecture: by Randy Pausch
She's Come Undone: by Wally Lamb
The Book Thief:
My most recent Five-Star winner:The Martian Chronicles, by Ray Bradbury.
I first read it at ... 9? I hadn't re-read it in some years. I do recall that when I first read it I had no idea what was happening in "There Shall Come Soft Rains"; I had never heard of the concept of "nuclear shadows." I realized this time what a magnificent short story it is.
Most recent add to my five star list: When You Are Engulfed In Flames by David Sedaris. I recommend Sedaris to everyone. The man is a riot. :)
These are just a few random books that are 5-stars for me:Angle of Repose
A Tree Grows in Brooklyn
My Antonia
Gilead A Novel
Cold Sassy Tree
The Poisonwood Bible
Life of Pi
Last two 5-Pointers...City of God A Novel of Passion and Wonder in Old New York by Beverly Swerling - the latest in her historical fiction series chronicling the lives of families in New York (this one takes place during the years leading up to the civil war)
The Virgin Queen's Daughter by Ella March Chase (historical fiction about the possibility that Queen Elizabeth i.e. The Virgin Queen wasn't quite so virginal and actually had a daughter)
I'm so impressed! I'm still working on it.!

The Thirteenth Tale A Novel
A Game of Thrones
Guernsey
The Graveyard Book
The Lightning Thief
Graceling - Kristin Cashore((Kind of over the top feminist, and reads like a women's lib book more than a fantasy novel... but it's still extremely enjoyable none the less))

http://www.goodreads.com/review/list/...
ooh Laura, i didnt notice you sneak in a thread.im like Fiona i feel guilty about 2s and 3s have only given about 3 x 1stars (the poor people probably took years to write em lol) - however ive also recalibrated recently and my fives now have to be really really special - theres a lot more in the 4s now lol
my recents:
The Hours
The God of Small Things
The Bone People
The Joy Luck Club(actually ive been having palpitations over whether to drop this down to a four, but feel too mean as i loved the film so much and am convinced it was only cos i allready knew the story/script so well that it took the edge off the book for me, i think it would have been unquestionable 5 if i was completely new to it - what to do!
oh where was I
Middlesex
Music & Silence/rose tremain
To Kill a Mockingbird
Thanks everyone, I'm glad this thread seems to have caught on! With so many speedreaders here, it should grow and grow....The Loop, The Loop . . . that may be my next one . .
