Jim (JimMacLachlan) How about Christine Jones, a GR author? I'm pretty sure she's Australian. She has a couple of books out; Mariard Volume 1 The Gifting & Mariard Volume 2 Glass Pawns.

Thanks Jim, i shall add her.

Christine | 3 comments Thanks for adding me to your list
JJ, I sure am Australian and proud of it.
Blessings CJ

Sorry about forgetting you Christine. Yes you do look very aussie and proud of it with that Akubra hat :)

Nancy Margo Lanagan is a recent discovery for me. I came across a review of Tender Morsels by one of my GR friends and went to the library in search of the book. It wasn't available, so I picked up Black Juice, one of her short story collections. She writes for young adults in a very mature style that is suitable for older readers. Her stories are dark, unsettling and unforgettable.

Xiever | 4 comments Garth nix and allison crogan are awsome!!!!

Elena | 49 comments I have read Sara Douglass. It was the series that introduced me to the fantasy genre. The Wayfarer Redemption

Colleen (blackrose13) John Flanagan (Ranger's Apprentice series) is Australian, I believe.

message 13: by [deleted user] (new)

Thanks those names have now been added.

Miriam | 137 comments How about Justine Larbalestier? She is from Sydney and writes YA fantasy. I've only read Magic or Madness but it was pretty interesting.

Janny (JannyWurts) | 713 comments Isn't Juliet Marillier an Australian, too?

Miriam | 137 comments I believe she is from New Zealand originally but now lives in Australia.

message 17: by [deleted user] (last edited Jul 10, 2009 03:33am) (new)

Those new names have now been added. Magic or Madness by Justine Larbalestier won the 2006 Andre Norton Award for best Young Adult Science Fiction or Fantasy. Justine is married to author Scott Westerfeld.

Juliet Marillier was born in Dunedin, New Zealand and now lives in Perth, Western Australia.

Thanks for those names.

Colin Taber | 71 comments Ummm...

Would it be rude to put myself forward? I'm Australian too.

My book, The Fall of Ossard, is available on Amazon.com now, and gets a national release in Australia next month.

You could also add Bevan McGuiness who's also in WA to the list.

Sure Colin, have added your name and Bevan's.

Shannon is a big fan of Isobelle Carmody also and that says a lot since Shannon has read over a 1000 books and does reviews on many:

Have now added those names. Am always looking to add more.

Jeffrey | 46 comments Is Kate Jacoby Australian.

message 28: by [deleted user] (new)

Yes she is, so have added her and also put details in her profile here on Goodreads. Thanks Jeffrey !

Jeffrey | 46 comments I found a book of hers -- the first book of her Elita series at a sf convention a few years ago -- and ordered the other 4 from an Australian book seller.

Later I did the same with Joel Shepherd.

message 30: by [deleted user] (new)

It is interesting that she wrote the first book while backpacking through the Middle East.

Jackie (thelastwolf) Sara Douglass'Hades' Daughter was very good.
I have a few Juliet Marillier on my real shelves and on my 'To Buy' list.
I also have Jennifer Fallon's Wolfblade.

Thanks Michael ! I have now added Duncan to the list and also updated his author profile on Goodreads.

message 33: by K (new)

K | 28 comments What about Lian Hearn? I have read the first 3 Tales of the Otori, starting with Across the Nightingale Floor, need to get the rest of the series.

message 34: by [deleted user] (new)

Thanks for that K ! Interesting that Lian Hearn is the pseudonym of Gillian Rubinstein (for children's writing only).

Lindsey | 111 comments JJ wrote: "Has anyone enjoyed reading any of these authors?..."

I've read Trudi Canavan, Sara Douglass, Kate Forsyth, and Sean Willaims. I'm pretty sure I've also encountered a few of the other authors on the list via short story anthologies and a few on are on "to read" list.

I liked all of Canavan's work, especially her Black Magician series. I haven't read her latest book, but I'm very interested in watching her mature as an author.

With Sara Douglass, I have a rule: if it's a stand-alone novel, I'll read it. Her series are just not my style.

Kate Forsyth gets better and better. The first trilogy of hers that I read was average in my opinion, but starting with The Forbidden Land, she really hooked me into the story. I wish more of her work was available in the U.S.

As for Sean Williams, I've only read his Star Wars entries, so I can't say anything about his own work. His SW work was decent, though.

Since this is about Australian fantasy authors, does anyone know a good, reliable, preferably inexpensive way to get a hold of their works which have only been published in Australia?

Cobalt_Cin | 26 comments I like Sara Douglas, Juliet Mariller, Garth Nix, Kate Forsyth and some of Traci Harding. Isobelle Carmody is great too the latter 2 authors I read in high school, but they're still great books/authors.

Laraine | 1 comments Please add Sally Odgers. Like Cobalt_Cin, I was also surprised not to find Carmody here too.

message 38: by [deleted user] (last edited Oct 13, 2010 05:32pm) (new)

Sally Odgers and Elita Faith Daniels added.

Isobelle Carmody has been listed.

Lindsey many of these authors are now being published on ebooks, so that may be a option for you to look into.
