655108 So, I've been working on a story since November, but have fallen off the wagon. Life gets in the way, sigh. It's been about 2 weeks since I've even looked at my story, the longest I've gone since I started it! I want this to serve as extra motivation. I will not give up!

Working title: Joy V.
Current word count: 14,600

Goals:
-Write something everyday. 100 words for tired days, 500-1000 on weekend days.
-I'd like to be somewhere between 45-50k words by the end of February.
-I'd like to finish the story sometime in April or May.

868779 hi julie!

655108 Hi, and thanks for the well wishes!

message 7: by Julie (new)

655108 So, it's my first day back in the 'writers chair.' It was difficult at first, but after I reached my basic goal of 500 words, I felt that I just had to keep going! The story is back in my head again, and I can't wait to keep going!
Yay!

I'll post an excerpt soon.

Words today: 1,393
goal: MET!
Total words: 16,153

868779 good work Julie!!!!!!

message 9: by Julie (new)

655108 Thanks Tink!

I added an excerpt from chapter 3, this isn't the part I was working on today, but it's related!

1457164 Wow Julie,
That is wonderful writing. I am glad that you have decided to continue the story.

881039 Hey Dee!

868779 ^^ooh...very intriguing. I like it!!!! :D

message 15: by Julie (new)

655108 Thank you all! I'm glad you enjoy it so far. Yay! It's very motivating!
:D

868779 :D I write way more with these guys nagging me...keep your muse away from Dee!!! She likes to poke them!!!!!!! jkjkjk

message 17: by Julie (new)

655108 Hehehe! I bet! You all seem to be a supportive bunch around here!

Uh oh...my muse is a little pewter gladiator statue...*put in pocket*...what muse?
;D

I'm so glad I've gotten back into the story! I'm still 'connecting the dots' between two parts. I skipped the middle part between the two, because I knew it would 'solidify' things. I had to make sure I know where I'm going with the conclusion. It feels good to close in on that void in the middle of the story!

Words today: 513 (right under the wire too! I had a good excuse, it was my b-day!)
Goal: Met!

Tomorrow will be a busy day...I'll have to work at making time to write! I can do it! (at least 100 words!)

message 18: by T.O.L.I. (new)

1203021 Thats great!

message 19: by Julie (new)

655108 Thanks!! :)

message 20: by Dee, Fan of the "Young Prose Society" (new)

1457164 I like your pocket muse :)

message 21: by Julie (new)

655108 Uh oh, Dee, I was warned of your muse harassments! You seem nice enough, and I'll be at work, so *hands muse to Dee* you can gladiator-sit him in your cubicle of writing/partying. ;D

message 22: by Dee, Fan of the "Young Prose Society" (new)

1457164 Will take great care with Julie's pocket muse, while she is at work!

message 23: by Julie (new)

655108 Dee, my pocket mused LOVED his day the the Dee-cube! Thanks for being a great muse-sitter! ;D

Kenzie, (from the question on the story review...I couldn't reply there somehow.) Yes, Joy, is re-living the same day. In that excerpt, she just discovered that, painfully so. I promise you it isn't another "Groundhog Day." (funny I'm writing this ON groundhog day!) Joy is trying to figure out why this is happening, and adventure ensues.

So, I know this is a stretch...I didn't write any for "Joy V.," yet. BUT, I did write an assignment for my students for tomorrow's class. AND, I did some mental writing for some other possible projects. :D

Words: 100-ish
goal: met?

I'll try to squeak out some Joy V. before I pass out tonight. Whew, what a day! *sticks muse back into pocket and turn out the cube's lights*

868779 :D Good job, Julie!

message 25: by Dee, Fan of the "Young Prose Society" (new)

1457164 Hey Julie,

Thanks so much for the pink roses. How very thoughtful of you :)

*puts a plate of chocolate frosted brownies on Julie's desk*

Have a great Tuesday!

message 26: by Kenzie, My NaNo story died. I'm going to attempt Reawakened Soul again. (last edited Feb 03, 2009 01:07PM) (new)

627841 Oh, okay. That's what it sounded like. Awesome idea. :) I'd love to read more of it, so let me know when there's more, okay?

message 27: by Julie (new)

655108 Dee, the brownies were divine! Kenzie, I'll let you know when there's more posted! I've started reading your story (I'm on chp 3), and it's amazing and very original! I'm enjoying it thoroughly!

I edited a little Joy V., but no real word count for that. So, today's word count comes from a long-neglected email to a dear friend in Japan! So, I do feel that I accomplished something, especially since one of my resolutions was to be better at keeping in touch with friends!

Words: ~150
goal: met, for my purposes!

Night y'all...I am SO ready for the weekend! 3 more days!

message 28: by Dee, Fan of the "Young Prose Society" (new)

1457164 Thanks for the kind words to Sons of Avalon Merlin's Prophecy, I am glad you are enjoying Merlin's tale. If you have any questions along the way, please be sure to ask :)

I did a word count on day's worth of emails and it was ten times more wordage than my daily word count for my newest novel. Geez, why is it so easy to have “diarrhea of the fingers” when you are writing to friends :)

Have a great "hump-day"

message 29: by Kenzie, My NaNo story died. I'm going to attempt Reawakened Soul again. (new)

627841 Thanks, Julie! I can't wait. :)

I hope you enjoy Reawakened Soul, keep in mind it's just the rough draft--I haven't edited at all--so there might be spelling/grammatical errors I need to take care of.

1203021 hi julie!

message 31: by Julie (new)

655108 Hi you amazing people, you! It's been a looooonnnggggg day.

Dee, I'm sorry I wasn't clear on my first post, so sorry. I haven't gotten Merlin's Prophesy yet, B&N is being a bit slow with it, but it's in the mail!! I hope to get it by the weekend and tear into it!! I'll be sure to bug you if I have questions. :D Oh, and I KNOW what you mean about the emails, if I tallied up those and the times I chat...wow, if only I could be that efficient with my story. I love that, "diarrhea of the fingers," I may have to borrow that some time. *deposits quarter in the 'quote jar' for the time I used it today* ;)

So, I've been writing today...newsletters for school (real exciting). I tallied up the words, and it's about ~250 or so, and I'm still not done, and I just remembered that I need to get Parent/Teacher conference letters out soon too! I never really thought about how much menial writing my job entails! Enough shop talk!

I will be visiting "Joy V." before bed though, I just need to get my mind off the day, and the story is good for that.

BTW- I've been bummed that I haven't gotten farther in reading more of the stories people have posted on goodreads. I'm still amazed that there are so many talented people here!

words: ~250 and counting
goal: met

message 32: by Elaine (new)

1226550 I know, I really need to start reading some of the great stories people have on here!!!

message 33: by Julie (new)

655108 Holy Crap, I haven't written in 3 days! I was doing so well too... let's see what I can get done before I fall asleep tonight!

message 34: by Dee, Fan of the "Young Prose Society" (new)

1457164 Holy Crap ... indeed!

Get thee back to your writing :]

message 35: by Julie (new)

655108 *smiles at Dee while finishing a pecan pie to take to Dee's cubicle*

Thanks for the encouragement! So, a friend is going through a rough patch, and I found myself doing some anger writing last night, mainly an introspective and bitter stream of consciousness. Writing is so good for that!

words: ~100
goal: not met (Thursday, Friday, and Saturday) :(

I'm back into Joy V. this morning though, it's a new day! Because my story deals with time I find I have to re-read parts to make sure details line up with the new parts. I find this part a little tedious, but good, because I can edit as I go! (By no means is my editing complete though!)

I also thought it was time to post a new part, so here's chapter 4. I hope it does not disappoint!

message 36: by Julie (new)

868779 Hi, Jules! what's happening?

message 38: by Julie (new)

655108 Tink! Thanks for spreading joy and fairy dust! Things are stressful, but I'm making time for writing, even if I have to skip a day here and there. :D I just can't give up!

message 39: by Dee, Fan of the "Young Prose Society" (new)

1457164 *Dances into Julie's cubical, wearing a big smile*

Thanks so much for the Yummy pie, Julie. It was very thoughtful.

I brought you a thank you gift :)

*Places bottle on desk*

UB. Tonic.

Un-Blockage Tonic is especially created for “Writer’s Constipation.”
Caution: use sparingly, as to not cause the dreaded “Writer’s diarrhea.”

Day skipping is not a bad thing. It gives your imagination a chance to refill.

*dances back to cubical*

message 40: by Julie (new)

655108 Whoo hoo! Thanks for the UB Tonic!

*read directions carefully, and only takes prescribed amount!*

I have to agree about the time for the imagination to refill.

Also, I find that reading helps my mind refill too, not necessarily with ideas from that specific story, but in terms of vocabulary, word choice, and just re-charging the brain. Is that just me, or does anyone else find that reading helps with creativity too?

message 41: by Dee, Fan of the "Young Prose Society" (new)

1457164 You have to be a prolific reader to be a prolific writer...

Reading feeds the writer’s soul :]

message 42: by T.O.L.I. (new)

1203021 so much...like i read almost seventy books a school year..or close to sixty or something...and everyone looks at me weird when i tell ppl that...well ppl at my school

message 43: by Dee, Fan of the "Young Prose Society" (new)

1457164 That is excellent Toli. Keep it up :)

message 44: by T.O.L.I. (new)

1203021 yesh...and then maybe 25-30 or sometimes more in the summers

message 45: by Captain Rayana (new)

1512958 Yeah, in my school, you have to read a minimum of 25 books

So while everyone (except for this one kid who's been reading the same book over and over again) is on their 5th or 10th book, I'm on my 28th :)

message 46: by T.O.L.I. (new)

1203021 lol...this year i think im on my 30th....r 29th
