Me,me, me first!!!

A short one,I'm curious how good are his works and besides I already bought a set with 5 of his books.

The Time Machine by H.G. Wells

I like you, you're enthusiastic! :))

ok, if there's no other proposals, maybe we'll read this one! I've heard of him, but I gotta check if I haven't already read something of his to be sure

Brandusa (brandubell) | 40 comments What do you say about a SF book?
Ender's Game

message 5: by Ana , compulsive dreamer (new)

Ana (anavladescu) | 275 comments Mod
I'd happily start with a SF, since you both proposed SF writers.

message 6: by Laurentiu, Acta non verba (new)

Laurentiu Lazar (Laur1989) | 172 comments Mod
You haven't yet come with a proposal :P.

Ender's Game I've added it to my unending to-read bookshelf a while ago. I heard it's one of the best SF books ever written.

Maybe we end up reading both :)

Ana (anavladescu) | 275 comments Mod
It is one of the best, yes. If it is to be SF, I'd come up with Isaac Asimov's "Foundation". It's a masterpiece but I never really got the courage to read it.

Foundation

ok so does any of you want to vote? there's not many of you, dooh, but I'd try to read Ender's Game! as a monthly read for september.. SF month :))

Laurentiu Lazar (Laur1989) | 172 comments Mod
It's ok with me I guess, the only problem would be that I'll have to order it.

They don't have this book in Nautilus book shop. You recommended me another book shop? (the one with books in English) I'll go check it out this week-end.

Ana (anavladescu) | 275 comments Mod
yes, Anthony Frost. I'll go there soon too, I need to refill my shelves for the school year to come, so that I have fresh books to prey upon! :))

Ana (anavladescu) | 275 comments Mod
I think I'll really go with Ender's Game. I'll find it at the library and start it on 1 of September. I'm gonna put it on the currently reading shelve of the group and start a topic about it in the discussion board about monthly reads.
who wants to read it will read it!
SF month.. here I come.

Brandusa (brandubell) | 40 comments I will read it!!

Andreea (Ciocarlica) | 10 comments Me too, I've been waiting for an opportunity to read it.

Ok then, Ender's Game it is!
Hope we'll all enjoy it. :-s

Brandusa (brandubell) | 40 comments Heey guys! I know it's a little early but I wanted to propose "Contemporary" for October.
One of my favorite books is written by Jonathan Safran Foer and I was thinking that maybe we could read his debut book Everything is Illuminated.
Tell me what you think!

I'm proposing Melissa's Traffic Jam by Melissa Groelingfor next month read. It's an YA novel and I promised her a while back that I'm gonna read it.

Ana (anavladescu) | 275 comments Mod
Ok so it's 24th of September, it's time for me to put up the poll so you can vote for the next month's read.. It'll be on the lowest part of the main page of the group. you can vote there from now on up until 29th of this month, and on the 30th I'm going to announce who won. Not that we have many options, but meh.

Up to now, Laur proposed Traffic Jam by Melissa Groeling and Brandusa proposed Everything is Illuminated by Jonathan Safran Foer .

I'm going to propose something as well. That would be Danielle Steel - Miracle . I heard about it from a friend of mine and I'm really curious on how it is.

So, these are the three options. Please go on the main page and vote!

message 19: by Ana , compulsive dreamer (last edited Sep 29, 2012 04:38AM) (new)

Ana (anavladescu) | 275 comments Mod
And the voting ended!

1 vote for the book I proposed (Danielle Steel - "Miracle") (thank you to whoever voted!)

2 votes for Mellisa Groeling's book, "Traffic Jam", proposed by Laurentiu.

an the winner, with 6 votes, was Foer's "Everything is Illuminated", proposed by Brandusa. Congratulations, Brandusa!

With these being said, this is what we are going to read the next month, October 2012 - Contemporary, Everything is Illuminated, by Jonathan Safran Foer.

Reading starts on the first of October, the new topic will be open until then and we can start talking about the old topic, of September.

xoxo

Brandusa (brandubell) | 40 comments Wohooo!! I hope we'll like the book!

Since I read about Alexander the Great this month, I want to continue the path of great rulers with another interesting historical novel Memoirs of Hadrian byMarguerite Yourcenar. So I guess the genre would be historical-fiction.

Ana (anavladescu) | 275 comments Mod

message 25: by Ana , compulsive dreamer (new)

Ana (anavladescu) | 275 comments Mod
also, it's almost November so I suggest we start proposing books for the monthly read part!

I'll put the poll up on the 29th, and I'll end it on the 31st, so we can know the winner!

Andreea (Ciocarlica) | 10 comments I'm proposing something a bit more comical: Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff, Christ's Childhood Pal by Christopher Moore. It's a parody of Jesus' life from the eyes of his childhood friend, Biff.

Ghilimei | 39 comments Andreea wrote: "I'm proposing something a bit more comical: Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff, Christ's Childhood Pal by Christopher Moore. It's a parody of Jesus' life from the eyes of his childhood friend, Biff."

I'd love to read this one but I'm afraid I don't have access to it. If anybody is willing to lend it to me, I'd appreciate it :)

Andreea (Ciocarlica) | 10 comments I'm almost sure you can find it at the library, or at a thrift shop. :-?

message 29: by Ana , compulsive dreamer (new)

Ana (anavladescu) | 275 comments Mod
apparently for this November we only have two proposals.

Andreea said Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff, Christ's Childhood Pal, by Christopher Moore.

I went for Michael Curtis Ford, with his book The Sword of Attila: A Novel of the Last Years of Rome.

The poll is up, you have to vote until the 31st, then I'll present the winner.

Apparenly, we have four proposals for this December, as follows :

Laur proposed Complete Ghost Stories by Charles Dickens

Andreea said she wanted A Christmas Carol , also by Dickens, but as we already have a book by Dickens which contains it and has been proposed, I decided to leave it up to you all if you want to read it separately. We could also have it as a weekly read.

Eliza went with The Shining by Stephen King.

I proposed The Innocent by David Baldacci.

You'll find the poll on the home page! Vote! :)
