I am special,
You are, too.
I go to school,
And so do you.
I have friends
Both girls and boys.
We read our books,
And share our toys.
I learn to write,
All nice and neat.
I learn to count,
And how to read.
I love Art and Drama,
And Baking, too.
And riding a horse –
It’s fun to do!
I have a family,
Just like you.
And they love me lots,
As yours loves you.
I try to be good,
But sometimes I am bad.
I like being happy,
But some things make me sad.
I think we’re not so different,
You and I.
We love and learn,
And play and laugh and cry.
Can we be friends, then?
Will you play with me?
We’re both as special
as can be.

Given the context, it is quite poignant. I like the simplicity - it's perfect.

Baking??? They even let the young 'uns BAKE? Cool! When I was a kid, I never got to burn anything (uh, legally, I mean).
