The bell rang three times. Two short, and one long. That was the signal that it was time to get up. Amerie opened her eyes, and looked at her watch. It was only six o'clock. What did they want so early in the morning? Grumpy from her lack of sleep, she got up, and tied her long, silky black hair into a bun. Her working clothes lay on the ground. As if they were trampled on.
'Which little brat was it this time?' She thought to herself, thinking of the kids.
The bell rang again, louder this time. "Im comming!" She hissed to herself.
Quickly, she cleaned up her room, and put on her shoes. As Amerie walked out of her room, Wendy, the families 'precious' little girl raced by her. Oh how badly Amerie wanted to trip her, and watch her fall flat on her face, but that would just earn her another day in the dark basement.
Wendy stopped to point and laugh at Amerie. Amerie looked down to see dirt smothered on her clothes. "Wendy!" She shouted, and raced after her, down the long flight of stairs.
"Mommy! Daddy!" Wendy sobbed, as she raced into their arms. "Amerie is trying to hurt me again!"
Fake tears fell down Wendys face.
Mrs. Limmens looked over at Amerie. Her evil stare, which came at her often, suited her long, skinny body. And the short red hair was like the finishing touch. Mr. Limmens was almost a complete opposite. He was a bit short, and very chubby. His suits that he always wore, were always the same, except for his crazy ties that changed everyday. You didnt know what he would wear next. Blue clouds, or zebra stripes.
Amerie stood there silently. Her bun slowly untying on its own and falling down, past her shoulders. "No I wasn't!" She defended herself, and tried to redo her bun.
"Amerie" Mrs. Limmens began in her slow voice, which usually meant that she was pretty angry. Wendy then slipped off quietly. When she was at the door, she turned around, and stuck her tongue out at Amerie. She saw this out of the corner of her eye, and her hands automatically balled up into fists. Amerie expected to be punished. Again. But Mrs. Limmens just turned around, and said, "We are ready for breakfast" And walked into the dining room. Her heels clicking on the hard floor, and echoing off into the distance. Her husband quickly followed behind her. His chubby stomach bouncing up and down.
Amerie silently went over to the kitchen and started the food. As it sizzled on the stove, she looked out of the window directly in front of her. She loved to watch the little squirrels racing after each other. Their thick, bushy tails poofed up. They were super quick, and loved to dig up Mrs. Limmens garden, which was why they had built a fence. But those squirrels weren't stupid. They could easily jump over. Oh how Amerie wished that she could be a squirrel, and run away with them past the forest, into the unknown world to her.
As a squirrel finally dug a hole for its nut, it stopped, grabbed the nut, and raced up a big tree. Amerie looked over to the other side to see what had upset it, and gasped. A slim man, wearing a black cloak over his whole body, raced through their yard. The wind blew the cloak off his face, showing his scarred face. But he wasn't just running. He seemed to be chasing after something. When Amerie looked closer, she knoticed that it looked like a cat. The same agile, slim figure. Except with short, brown horns. And wings! As she leaned closer to the window, to get a better view, her bun untied, falling right into her face. She fell down on the ground in time to smell the food burning.
"Oh no! Not again!" She panicked. Quickly, she grabbed the pan, and turned off the fire. Looking in, she saw the burnt eggs and ham.
At that moment, Gary, the eleven year old monster came into the kitchen. When he saw what had happened, he grinned, and yowled, "Mother! Come quick!"
Mrs. Limmens ran in, and stopped in front of Amerie. Her face turned red from anger. Slowly, and quietly, she leaned over towards Amerie, and whispered into her ear. "Go."
Amerie left the food on the counter and looked at the door. The one which led downstairs. Wendy opened the door, revealing the pitch blackness. Slowly, Amerie took a couple steps towards it. Gary ran over, and pushed her in. "Have fun!" He laughed. Amerie stumbled inside. When she finally managed to get her balance, she turned around just in time to see the door slam shut. And for the fifth time, she felt her way down the pitch black stairs.
