This month, in this year - February 2007 - the heavy rainfall take turns with drizzles and small sprinkles in about 12 hours, less than a day, the water started to emerge its power almost in every roads, yards, housing, even into elite residences in Jabodetabek (abbreviated from Jakarta-Bogor-Depok-Tangerang-Bekasi). Nevertheless, its power manages to arise until 3 meters and 1.5 meters high floating everything it passes by. Not only up to ankle high level, had the rain water showed off its power towards the life in earth.
According to AlJazeera TV News, it already killed 5 people. Compare with the flood disaster in early 2002, in 7 days, the rain continuously mobilize all its strength to fall down on earth surface. No signs of sunlight for the whole week. And, easy to guess, the water was floating beyond normal in almost 70% Jakarta area. It is out of any imagination and unexpectedly, what will happen this time if the same thing happen again . . . . . Someone said, never imagine anything exceed its capacity, face it for today, tomorrow and the day after tomorrow, who will know? Pass through just the way it is, as if the water naturally flows . . . watch out, of course do not get adrift by it. Hmmm, I remembered a self-help e-book “Think Yourself There” wrote by Debbie Johnson. There is a significant part in the first chapter that brings me to a close encounter to observe the life in which has gone by, she emphasizes The river of life always shows me when to do what, if I truly watch & listen! “There are times when I need to take full control, and times when I need to release control completely.”
Luckily, I am eager to wipe off any reading materials. As long as it will enhance knowledge and develop my life skills. And, I’m very lucky to have close friend who enjoy “eat voraciously” anything – from a dish of raw vegetables and mouthwatering spicy sauce until many things that can add the minus of our spectacles which their thicknesses guaranteed beyond the nerds’ spectacles – because from her I got the abovementioned e-book.
The Javanese common habitual who always is thankful, by saying, “Untung (lucky)……”, for anything that has happened although disasters come by in turns, actually is an intriguing thing. For jungle wonderer or expertise it was regarded as a survival kit, this customary has magical power to those who believe it. Like a spiritual life-saving that never run out of time, and never get rusty by any other arousing excitement temptations, just say “Untung …..” and have faith in its magical strength deep down inside the heart, will enable its believer to endure any extraordinary hardships in life.
It’s unbelievable, even now I feel very lucky compare to those flood victims in Jabodetabek. Although – as a matter of fact I am not entirely safe from the power of this water – because they succeed to go through my house roves. Consequently, there is water flooding in several parts of my house. Despite its high level was not reaching ankle, yet made me downhearted. Not to mention, in early Friday before sunrise, its sprinkles hit the electricity that located between the roves, which meant short circuit! Electrical problem indicated lights are off and water pump cannot work. Will my life come into pre-historic era, living in cave, take bath-wash-pee in the river?
Once more I am lucky. Consider myself to be lucky enough, as my brother reminded me, how fortunate we are, compare than flood victims who become refugee now. News from TV broadcasted about the refugees, not only in the tent, also they went to everywhere as long as higher places. The most important thing is free of flood and provides enough supports. Including the mosque, relatives’ house, even cemetery! There is a misfortune one, a support tent finally got the effect of this flood almost reach the upper part tent. Electrical technician, receive lots of orders to repair the electricity. In every rainfall eventually many houses get short-circuit so the electrical technician are pretty lucky to gain additional income, as well as umbrellas renting by street-kids, and skilled laborer to repair houses.
Furthermore, this flood is considered as golden opportunity for people to rent out the gerobak (push cart), rubber boat, and bamboo raft with Joko Tingkir style[1:]. Furthermore, the rain fall served the street kids to charter their big umbrellas for people who wait in the street for public transportation to arrive. Kebanjiran rezeki - literally meaning is the flood of prosperity, usually being understand as overwhelming prosperity - precisely as being lucky which means able to gain profits for them. Yup, this kind of lucky has different meaning, as profit to obtain cash.
It is sure good and enjoyable, being lucky in any condition. Moreover, if always being lucky and able to see luckiness, or merely opportunity, as well as benefit or positive side in every knotty and complexity of our underway lives. Wow, it ensures the multi advantages!
[1:] Joko Tingkir is a famous Javanese traditional legend. He was considered as an ancient hero with certain power that rarely have by people now a days.
