FORDUNN

I can do what he has Dunn,
I can write the transcripts
For souls, new and old, alive and dead,
The said and the unsaid, like pages that never
Could be read, like tears that raged and burned
But never cried,
Soaked to the bone with Their oblivion,
Like string that all wound up
Comes undone
Or the artists gun that he points to his head
But dead, he decides to use his blood
To make braver pictures of love
Then all the books and the words and the
Said, could have done, in a million
Billion
Oblivions.

Dedicated to Stephen Dunn, the Poet

K_____

How sweetly you sit there coloring the world
In fruit-ripe theories and spellbound phrase
And how oddly you bend the world by a gaze
And leave me ruined by seduction – loving – as
If it was so simple, and so easy as the wind
That moved the feather to fall
And in falling it fell gently unto the pillow
Of your breath, and happily
Lived upon your milky-white breasts – How I
Yearn to be the quill that dipped its point
Into the inks of life and spread its language
Upon those very breasts, and thus I’d
Transform into my words and let myself
Sink into your flesh until
I was absorbed by every element of your
Sex –

Morning Light

The morning light spilled over my
Dreams and with its warmth it
Smoothed me into waking, shaking
Me with Her fingers, I breathed and
She crossed the threshold of my
Lips – Lips that kissed the unseen
Parts of my soul and she knows,
She knows everything about the
Things gone unseen, in me.

Heavy, my body tries to separate
Me from the inward gravity of her
Beauty – my hands go up to block
Her from me but it is too late for the
Light is to me, not what is seen, but what
Lies within the eternal ball of string that
Is this man’s soul!

NIGHTTIME

Night called me out into the hall
Where the world dissolved into
Shades and grades of despair, where
The lonesome words
Of a million minds lingered and waited
To be heard, heard like the chirping
Birds that cry on the window sills of

Our love-lost children of a different age, days
long burnt out and
words left unspoken
and broken the vowels decayed
and became the slave of
the grave
that is the night
that is the light lost to sight.

Soaked By Tears

Soaked to the veins in sorrow, my tears
Like blood,
Flow –
I know, that you know, how wet is water and
How red is blood, but do you know me
In the shallowest sense, like
What demons haunt me and by
Which religion, I am tossed into fear
And in fearing I am tossed into love
Or something called love
But like spears are meant to maim I am
Again, left to
Bleed and on my knees
To cry to ears that only hear
The plead too late, screamed!

Like all men do close their eyes fall too sleep,
And some, often most, do find themselves
In a dream, a dream they
See but what is visions to the heart? How
Loud is light when like
Feathers, it silently cries and
Dies,
Because it bared not the heaviness
Of
Love.

THE ARGUMENT

I have drank, we have drank, from the same self-made cup
The blood of a man, who lived in the land of the
Stars, afar off place
Too close to be seen by the eye
The lie that is our sight
Like light that wears the sheath of white…
Like when I whispered good night
Prayer for the colors to
Mix and mingle wishing the rainbow to make my
Sorrows feel so simple,
Like dreams that lived within the thoughts that
Could not speak to ears self-contained with the thorns
That grow just a few inches from the
Flower
Like a hand of forgiveness that reaches to
Meet the man,
Who died before he could know forgiveness full blown
Power!

The Departing of Friends

With this kiss I kiss you eternal, I set you
Down to sleep and wrap you in the sheets of satin and lace
And love the candle as its flames trace your face
Like my memories shall leave room for the fire
To burn, forever, like
Love that does not cease
Nor can it leave but it
Moves to burn – I yearn to love you
But like all things of wisdom
I cannot let my foolishness deceive and so I
Must leave,
Leave you sleeping here by the candles light
So you can dream without me
And I can dream without you and we can
Part
Like lovers that neither burned out
Nor ceased to be afire,
But knew better not to get entangled by
The liar.
