Monterey Bay Aquarium.
We're standing outside the kelp forest window, a concrete chapel with out enough pews. It's most likely the first tank that you'll see upon arrival, unless you happen to be an over zealous shark lover, only in it for the aquariums newly acquired Great White shark.
Its 11:30, and they're about to feed. It seems that every one who's come to entertain their families on Memorial Day have found a place to sit or stand, anticipating the visceral performance of the diver and her bag of flesh. A volunteer in a rust colored sports jacket with salt and pepper hair sweeps the area behind the bar for small children and mischievous college students. He begins to ask the people in front to have a seat, and like we had been bribed or bewitched, this massive amoeba of grown adults take to the floor, criss cross apple sauce, and look up upon the 50 foot window with wide eyed curiosity. I couldn't decide weather we looked more like a classroom of children from an elementary school, or a congregation at a religious gathering, on our knees to prey, to something, perhaps worth worshiping.
