What happens when a forbidden love occurs between two very different beings? Well, you get me!
My Mom’s a creature of the night, and my Dad’s a creature of the light. They are supposed to hate each other, because of some disagreement millennia ago. So, of course if the council ever found out I was a half-breed, I would be eliminated.
Creatures of the night, are all pale-skinned, from the lack of sunlight, they have dark hair, and bright green eyes.
Creatures of the light, are dark-skinned, light haired, and have sky blue eyes.
What do I look like? Well, I have dark brown hair, with golden highlights, I have pale skin, with just a hint of a tan. My eyes are green, with blue flecks in them.
So, to say the least, I didn’t really blend in with either clans, which is why I left to live with humans. I lived with my mom, when I was little, because it was easier for to blend in there. Even thought I did still have to dye my hair every three days to cover up the highlights, and I was constantly wearing contacts to cover the blue flecks in my eyes. My Mom, even made me get a spray tan that made me whiter!?! Now you’re probably wondering, what the whole creatures of the night and light are supposed to mean, well, creatures of the night are strongest at night and creatures of the light are strongest during the day. Well, part of the reason they don’t want a half-breed around is, now I’m technically one of the strongest beings ever, because I’m strong during the day and night!
Anyway, the only time, I got to be just me, was when my Mom and me snuck away to visit Dad, who she is still madly in love with.
Anyway, as soon as I turned eighteen, I left, it was way too hard, keeping up the charade.
Our bodies are made to preserve, so it was hard having to redeye my hair and retan my body every three days, and having to change contacts every hour, because my eyes dissolved them! Well, it wasn’t fun.
Anyway, now I just live in a condo, with my roommate, Jenna. She’s a werewolf, and my best friend, she’s also 120. While I’m currently 21. Guess I also forgot to mention, there are other beings out there, which include: Creatures of the Light and Creature of the Night, Werewolves, Vampires, and Witches. Jenna left her pack like I left my clan, so we see eye to eye on a lot of things! Including the fact, that our love life is zip!
But, it’s not our fault, that no guy can handle us! Humans can kind of sense, the dangerous part of us, sometimes it waves them off and sometimes it draws them forward. I guess I just haven’t met the right guy.
Anyhow, I still go secretly visit my Mom and Dad every other week. And that’s where I was headed now. I go meet them at this abandoned park, where nobody really ventures to. Plus, it’s only a half hour trip from my condo, while my parents are both traveling an hour! I leave early because I like getting there before them. There’s something about the forest that’s soothing, it helps me think. So, I was currently speeding down in the highway, in my brand new Porsche! Not, I was actually driving a worn-down Honda. But hey, a girl can dream!
Since it was currently 3:00 in the morning, nobody was on the road, so my thirty minute drive turned into a twenty minute one. This left plenty of time till my parents arrived at four.
As, I stepped outside the car, I breathed in the crisp night air. And I felt my power hum through my body, making feel alive and strong. Then I walked to where the trail of the park used to be, but was already overgrown with grass and fallen logs.
And began my walk, I loved walking at night, but I also loved to feel the wind in my hair, so my walk turned into a full fledged run. The wind my hair back and my muscles worked on overtime, but it felt good, made me feel strong, made me feel like I could fly.
My soul and spirit seemed to life, and as I was relishing in the feel of things getting so caught up in the moment, I didn’t sense the vampire that I ran into.
The next thing I know, I’m on my back looking up into the most handsome face, I’ve ever seen. He was pale, but not too pale, He had curly brown hair, and the most perfect hazel eyes I’d ever seen on a man that I almost got lost in the swirls of chocolate-green.
“Are you ok?” He asked with a smirk.
“Uh, yeah.” I said, his voice breaking my reverie.
“Good, I wouldn’t want to waste my energy burying your dead body.”
“Right, you’re probably old enough to be my grandpa.”
“You’re right about that, I’m pretty old.” I finally built up the energy to sit up, and then he offered his hand and I took it as he pulled me to my feet as if I weighed nothing. His hand in mine felt so right and it also sent electricity sparking through me. I swayed a little as I came up, if from the fall or his touch I didn’t know, probably both, but he grabbed my arm to steady me. That’s when I felt it again, that sparking electricity, but this time it was accompanied by something that had never happened before, my magic flared up, calling his as well. It was like our powers danced with each other, before zooming back where they belonged. In the places right under our hearts. My eyes met his and it was like we shared a moment that was indescribable, above time, it lasted a few seconds, but felt like centuries.
I finally broke the silence. “So, how old is old grandpa?”
He smirked this lopsided smile that had my heart skipping a beat, which was pretty annoying, since he could probably hear it. “348.”
“I was wrong; you’re old enough to be my great grandpa’s great grandpa.”
Then my phone beeped, which meant it was time to get back to the car, because my parents were almost here.
“Gotta go, but it was nice bumping into you.”
I turned around to leave, when his voice halted me. “Bump into me, I thought you were charging me.” I turned around, and smirked at him, memorizing his face and knowing, I’d probably never see him again.
Then I ran, a part of me sad, that I would never see John Doe again. But I shook off the feeling, it was ridiculous, I just met the guy, and I didn’t even know his name!
I finally arrived at my car and there was my Dad’s dark blue Lamborghini, and my mom’s bright yellow Lamborghini, I know, the creature of the night has the bright color and the creature of the light has the dark color, but their parents and are just weird like that. But what was super freaky, was the fact that leaning against my Dad’s Lam, was the vampire that I had ran into not moments before. Vampires are super fast, and the case was just proven, since he beat me here, and I may be faster than humans, but I’m not faster than vamps.
He shot me another smirk. “We meet again.”
“Technically.”
He raised an eyebrow and I was instantly jealous, I’d always wanted to do that. “What do you mean technically?”
“Well, theoretically, we haven’t “meet” at all, since I don’t even know your name.”
“Hmmm, I see. You think in technicality’s.”
“Only on some things.” I said with a shrug. “So, where are my parents?”
“If I assume correctly, I think their currently having a make-out section, over in the woods.”
“TMI! Geez, I did not want to know that!”
“Well, technically you did ask.”
“She asked what?” Came my dad’s rumbling voice.
“She asked where you are your wife were at.”
“Goodness, I guess you could hear that, huh?” Came mom’s embarrassed voice.
“Yes ma’m.” And even John Doe seemed embarrassed.
Then I heard a duet of “Hey Sweetie!” before I was engulfed in a family hug. But I really didn’t mind, because against all odds, I loved them.
Then, they let go and they began their questioning. This is how the conversation went:
Dad: “How’s work?”
Me: “Work.”
Mom: “How Jenna?”
Me: “Crazy, but good.”
Mom: “Have you met anybody interesting?”
Me: “I’ve met interesting people, but no one of interest.”
Mom shot me a smile, and then glanced at the vamp. Before I could respond, Dad said, “Riley, I want you to meet Hunter.”
As if on cue, Hunter lifted himself off of my Dad’s car, and came to shake my hand, “It’s nice to finally meet you.” He said with a wink.
“The feelings mutual.” Was all I could say in response.
Then, pretty rudely, I came to my senses; turning to dad I straight-forwardly asked “What in God’s name are you doing conversing with a vamp?”
“Now Riley, don’t be rude!” Scolded my mom. Don’t be rude? How could I be anything but rude!?!
“I might be mistaken, but isn’t there an ongoing war between the Creatures of the Night and Light?”
“Duh!” My mom, might sound sweet, but I sure don’t get my temper from my dad.
“Then I’m probably right about this, didn’t vamps choose to fight on the Creatures of the Night’s side?”
“Wow, hun, I never knew you were so smart!”
“Yeah, Mom, ever since I moved, it’s like you aren’t affecting me anymore!”
Ok, that was rude, cruel, and hurtful, but this smokin’ hot vamp, could decide to kill my dad, and well, that wasn’t ok with me.
“I know what you’re thinking Riley, but he’s not going to hurt me, in fact we’re trying to help each other end the war!” Dad was never good at reassuring people unless he was totally sure of it himself, and at the moment he seemed pretty sure, which just fueled my anger even more.
Mom, must have sensed, my temper getting hotter, because of course, my eyes had to start glowing, like bright green/blue saucers!
I knew that if I was going to get to the bottom of this, I would have to strike at the source, So I turned toward Hunter, and let power fill me, I let the light of the moon wash over me, let it boost my power. I was mad, and I immediately wanted to fight.
“Riley, No!” Dad ordered.
But Mom told him this was the only way, and they could take care of themselves.
“Do you really want to fight a vampire?”Hunter asked.
His question was like alcohol to a fire, fueling it to the breaking point, did he think I wasn’t strong enough. “Do you want to fight me? Have you ever fought a half-breed?”
His eyes showed no emotion, but he readied himself, I saw it in the tensing of his muscles and the slight shift in the position of his feet. I smiled right before I charged him. Of course he twisted away before I rammed into his chest, but I was pretty darn close.
I had taken a few karate classes, but got kicked out, because I was always landing hard blows.
But, here, right now, I had someone that wouldn’t break, and I was relishing in it. Then, I jumped up and twisted my body in the air, kicking once at his face, which he dodged and once at his chest, which I clipped.
“Listen, Riley, I know you think I’m evil and will hurt your parents, but I really just need their help to end the war, we’ve detected they have great power when they are both here, but I think we made a mistake, because it’s not them, it’s you.”
That made me pause, for the slightest second, but that’s all Hunter needed, he swept my feet out from under me and laid down on top of me, so I wouldn’t get back up, he put his weight on me, but not enough to squish me. “So, will you help us?”
I wiggled a little trying to get him off me, but he just pressed down harder. I looked up at him, into his eyes and almost got lost again. “Ok.” I whispered, giving up, knowing I could stop the war and save my parents from being in danger.
“Good.” He said smirking down at me.
“And just so ya know, saving the world is now at the time of my priority list, and if you don’t mind, could you get off of me.”
“Oh, right.” He said jumping off of me and offering a hand to help me up. It felt like déjà’ vu as I took his hand, and felt that tingle rush through me again. But I had always been good at hiding my emotions, so as soon as I was both feet, I looked at my parents and sighed, knowing that there was going to be planning and most of it, with the annoyance beside me.
“And just so you know, it’s not the world we’re saving, it’s a race.”
I gave him a cheeky grin “Yeah, but the world wouldn’t survive without me, so I theoretically am saving the world.”
“That’s our daughter.” My parents sighed harmoniously. I’d always wondered how they did that, and it still puzzles me to this day.
“Well, let’s start strategizing.” Dad said, clapping his hands together, an eager look crossing his face. Yeah, he was weird.
