Protect Me

The tears are streaming down my face
I run to your warm embrace
I rest my head on your chest
My tears getting your t-shirt wet
As I wrap my arms around your waist
You stare into my horrified face
I fall asleep in your arms
I trust you to protect me from harm
As you carry me to your car
I’m awakened by the beat of your heart
My eyes stay closed but I can see
You are watching over me
When I open my eyes, you’re still there
You let go of my hand and stroke my hair
I move over and lay next to you
And I wonder if there’s anyone who
Can make me feel just like this
But your kiss is the only one to touch my lips
You’re the one who’s in sight
When I sleep and dream at night
You’re the one who’d give your life
If there was a risk that I would die
I tell you why I ran in tears
You protect me through the years
I feel the excitement give me a sting
As you kneel in front of me with a ring
You take me under your loving wing
And I am protected by your ring
