SnowStorm was alone and scared as she smelt the air. There were many unfamiliar scents in the she-cats nose. She was a clan-born cat but the clan was in another forest. Even when she kept looking, she could not find any cats anywhere. The she-cat smelled them, but they hid from her. SnowStorm was told about this forest, it was full of loners. She feared this forest since she was a kit, and she didn't mean to wander into it.
Suddenly she was alert and her hair on her spine stood on all ends. A cat was nearing! She used her advanced warrior skills and crouched to the ground where her belly skirted the forest floor. "You know we need to find another clan!" said one cat to another. "Yes but we cannot find any that will accept us!" hissed the other. The first cat pricked its ears and widened its eyes. "Someone is watching us" the apprentice hissed to the she-cat.
In about one rabbit hop, the tom was on top of SnowStorm, pinning her to the ground. "Wow, a warrior!" the apprentice yowled in amazement. "And by the scent of her, she's a loner!" said the other apprentice, sniffing her.
"Very good, apprentices" hissed SnowStorm, "Interested in starting a clan, my other clan abandoned me" SnowStorm had a great idea and she had wanted to be a clan leader for very many moons. The two apprentices became wide-eyed with excitement and nodded.
"Great, we must find a place to make a camp" said SnowStorm. It was early in the morning and SnowStorm was exhausted from searching forests for a half-moon.
They emerged in a sunny clearing with a tall tree-stump on the far north side. There was a tiny opening in the ground that would be great for a medicine cat. There was also a small cave that would be great for SnowStorm's den, or soon to be SnowSTAR's den. There was a hole of hardened dirt dug surrounded by a circle of trees that hung over it, blocking out the rain, and it looked great for a nursery. They needed to get to work on where the Warriors, Apprentices, and Elders would have their dens.
"Ok tell me your names" SnowStorm demanded. "Well, we were named by our last leader, but the warrior code tells us that you must name us since you are our leader now" said the yellow she-cat. SnowStorm forgot about the Warrior Code out of worry of her last clan. "As you wish, I will have a naming ceremony right now then" meowed SnowStorm.
SnowStorm climbed onto the tree stump and called out "Fellow clan cats old and young, gather under the OakStump for a naming ceremony!" yowled SnowStorm. The two cats ran to the stump and sat down. SnowStorm twitched her tail, looking at the she-cat closely. She understood and leapt up to SnowStorm's side.
"From this day forward, this apprentice will be named Yellowpaw for the color of her fur and eyes" meowed Snow. Yellowpaw respectfully bowed her head before SnowStorm rested her head on YellowPaw’s. She licked SnowStorm’s shoulder. After Yellowpaw had sat down, SnowStorm twitched her tail at the other cat and he happily leapt onto the OakStump. "From this day forward, this apprentice will be known as Boulderpaw, for his boulder hard and paws and pelt-color" meowed SnowStorm. He mirrored Yellowpaw and respectfully bowed his head before leaping down from the OakStump.
"As you both should know the warrior code is to be followed in this clan or there will be some punishments" hissed Snowstorm, “So I expect you both to follow it since you are first into this clan". The two apprentices nodded. "I have decided to make you my own apprentices since I'm the only warrior in this clan" meowed SnowStorm. The apprenticed purred happily and gleamed with honor and excitement.
"Already I have an assignment. You must help with preparing the camp for new clan members. We must also make a nursery wall and a warriors and apprentices den" SnowStorm meowed. "Great!" purred Boulderpaw, "I get to use my paws for something useful!" "Why yes you do, now stop whining, SnowStorm is on the OakStump!" hissed Yellowpaw.
"Tomorrow at sunrise, if the camp is finished with its fixing up, you two will meet me at my den in that cave over there" SnowStorm twitched her tail, "and you will start your first day of training". The two cats purred with excitement and SnowStorm leapt down and addressed Boulderpaw. "Boulderpaw, I want you to go over to that tree and under it, find some moss and bedding and lay it under the tree and that will be the apprentice den" meowed SnowStorm. "And Yellowpaw, you will go to that other large tree across from Boulderpaw and do the same and that will be the warrior den" meowed SnowStorm to Yellowpaw, "Can I trust you two?" Yellowpaw and Boulderpaw nodded. "Then quickly..." SnowStorm began, but the apprentices had already gone. She sighed.
It was noon and SnowStorm had finished stuffing her den with sand and moss. She padded over to the to-be apprentices den and saw Boulderpaw making a nest out of moss for herself. Boulderpaw looked up at her leader and dipped her head respectfully. "Just checking on your progress" SnowStorm purred with satisfaction of the den's progress. It was about finished and the clan could get a good rest when it was.
SnowStorm padded over to the warrior's den and peered around the branches. Yellowpaw was spreading more moss from off a stone onto the ground underneath the tree. As she continued, SnowStorm realized that she didn't notice SnowStorm, so SnowStorm planned to train her about that after their mission at Sun high.
As SnowStorm leaped onto the OakStump, she yowled, "All clan cats old and young, gather under the OakStump for a discussion!" Soon Yellowpaw and Boulderpaw were watching her with curious eyes. "I have decided a clan name and want to hear your opinions" yowled SnowStorm, "I've decided it will be SnowClan unless anyone disagrees" The apprentices purred in admiration of the name and SnowStorm knew it was settled. "Then SnowClan it is!" she yowled. "Also, we will have a time to catch prey and to share tongues, and I trust you two know about sharing tongues and catching prey" meowed SnowStorm. "I have even generously dug out a prey hole, and as the Warrior Code says, the clan must be fed before anyone else" purred SnowStorm calmly. All the apprentices did was nodded their heads and thought in their heads. SnowStorm leapt down from the OakStump and ended the meeting.
"You really dug that?" asked Boulderpaw, looking at the deep hole behind the nursery. "Yes I did" purred SnowStorm proudly. "I expect you to place prey in it and try to eat it before it turns to crowfood" meowed SnowStorm. The boulder colored cat nodded and bowed his head before rushing back to work in the apprentice's den.
"Yellowpaw, are you about finished?" asked SnowStorm. "Yes, I have been for a while, SnowStorm" Yellowpaw answered with a friendly meow. "Good, I need you to go on a journey that Boulderpaw will join you on when he is finished" SnowStorm meowed quietly. "What is my task?" asked Yellowpaw curiously. "I want you to help the clan build up in members, so try to find loners in the forest, but if you get into trouble with one and need help, just yowl as loud as you can" finished SnowStorm. Yellowpaw nodded and sped away into the depth of the forest.
SnowStorm padded over the Boulderpaw, watching him closely as he finished speedily and trotted over to SnowStorm. "Can I do anything else for the clan making?" he asked, eager to get to work on something. "Why, yes, I planned for you and Yellowpaw to go on a task, well, a mission" meowed SnowStorm. BoulderPaw's ears and whiskers twitched in excitement. "You will follow YellowPaw's trail and you two will find any loners to join the clan. If either of you get into any trouble, yowl to where I can hear it. Bring the loners back to camp and I will determine if they are good enough to join the clan, and what rank they will be in" SnowStorm meowed quietly to Boulderpaw. The apprentice realized that SnowStorm's task explaining was over and trotted into the same part of the forest that Yellowpaw disappeared into, then SnowStorm quietly walked into her den and waited.
It was almost moonrise by the time Boulderpaw and Yellowpaw came back with some cats. There were some amount, and from what SnowStorm saw, there were seven cats, 3 kits, and one pregnant queen. The three kits were not even a moon old and two of them were orange, and the other was black. There was a cat that had ruffled, running fur. There were three warriors by the look of it and one was battle-scarred, and the she-cat warrior had pelt that looked like it was from a kit. The very last warrior was unexplainable.
"SnowClan and loners, please come and join me under the OakStump for a discussion!" yowled SnowStorm from the top of the OakStump. The warriors, kits, apprentices, and queens watched SnowStorm with wowed eyes of the she-cat's snowy pelt.
"I am SnowStorm, soon to be SnowStar. I have recently made this clan and sent my two apprentices to find loners, and fortunately, they were successful" meowed the snowy pelted leader. "I ask you to join our clan and help it grow. We have set camp and all we need is some food and we'll be set. Me and my two apprentices plead you to join us and defend each other from other dangerous warrior cats" yowled SnowStorm. The loners purred in agreement with the friendly offer and nodded. "Does any warrior, queen, or apprentice decline this offer?" asked SnowStorm. Nobody made a sound. "Ok, then I will have a naming ceremony after you make yourselves a bed in the warriors or apprentices den" She twitched her tail to show which was which, "Or into the nursery".
The queens carried their kits into the nursery and nested them with moss and other bedding. The warriors padded into their den, deep in discussion, and the only apprentice padded into his den, alert. It was about Moon high and darkness was closing over. SnowStorm had to get this naming ceremony over with.
"SnowClan members, old and young, please gather under the OakStump for a Naming Ceremony!" yowled SnowStorm. The SnowClan members watched SnowStorm with tiresome eyes. SnowStorm called up all the kits and the mother watched them as one climbed up and stood beside SnowStorm. It was the ginger orange kit. "From this day forward, this kit will be named GingerKit for her ginger orange pelt" meowed SnowStorm, watching the kit climb down and run to its mother.
The other orange kit came next. SnowStorm watched closely and made sure it didn't fall. "From this day forward, this kit will be called SpottedKit, for her spotted coat of orange" meowed SnowStorm. The black kit was next and climbed up in one rabbit hop of time with no hassle. "From this day forward, this kit will be named NightKit, for his 'dark as night' pelt" SnowStorm yowled.
She moved onto the little apprentice. He almost blended with the forest with his green-gray pelt. "From this day forward, this apprentice will be named NimblePaw, for his great speed and agility" meowed SnowStorm. It was almost Moon high. The apprentice knew what to do, unlike the kits, and bowed his head and licked SnowStorm's shoulder respectfully.
Warriors and Queens were all that was left. The unexplainable warrior ran as fast as thunder and was at her side quicker than NimblePaw had been. "From this day forward, this warrior will be called ThunderStorm, for his Thunder-fast speed" meowed SnowStorm before seeing ThunderStorm bow his head, lick SnowStorm's shoulder, and then stalk off into the crowd. The she-cat with the kit-pelt look was next. "From this day forward, this she-warrior will be named Kitpelt for her kit-soft looking pelt" SnowStorm chose. The she-cat bowed her head and licked SnowStorm shoulder before running after Thunderstorm, looking displeased. A battle-scarred cat was already at her side. "From this day forward, this warrior will be called DirtPelt for the color of his pelt" meowed SnowStorm, then got licked and bowed to. Only the queens were left.
She called up a queen that was cradling a kit in her claws. She looked up and set the kit down before climbing up the OakStump. "From this day forward, this queen will be called CradleClaw because she has been seen cradling kits in her claws" meowed SnowStorm. The queen payed her respects and went back to cradling NightKit. The other queen was already climbing up the OakStump. "Finally, from this day forward, this queen will be named BarkPelt, for her bark-colored pelt" finished SnowStorm before the queen could pay her respects. After the queen did, she went to the nursery with all the kits and CradleClaw.
NimblePaw, Yellowpaw, and Boulderpaw were already in their den, talking. After every other cat noticed that SnowStorm went to sit in her den, they departed except for DirtPelt, whom had walked into SnowStorm's den.
"Do you need a deputy, because I was my other clan's deputy" he meowed quietly. "I will find out soon enough if you are ready. You are temporarily deputy" hissed SnowStorm, and then saw DirtPelt nod and walk out.
