A chapter that was taken out!!
I ran down the stairs and opened the front door. Heath held open his arms and I ran into them.
"I'm really sorry Sabrina," he whispered.
"It's okay; I'm okay"
"Good, let's go," he took my hand and I shut the door.
When we were in his car he kissed me and grabbed my hand. We talked a little and were suddenly at school.
"Krissy!" I saw her talking to Jake by the front door of school. I ran to her.
"Hey Sabrina!" She smiled.
We chatted with Jake until the bell rang.
"See you at lunch," I said to Krissy as I walked into English.
English was really boring. We just started reading Shakespeare's Macbeth.
But Math was great because Ashton and I were working together. A lot of new inside jokes were made. Then I was walking into biology.
"Hey Day!" Landon said as I sat down.
"Hi Night, I wonder what Mr. Greg has planned for us today." I said.
He laughed, "I think we are going to talk about diseases."
My heart stopped and it wasn't because of his smile. "Oh," my voice was shaky.
"You okay?" He asked.
"Ya, I'm good," I tried to smile. He smiled his half smile.
"Okay class today we are going to talk about cancer." Mr. Greg spoke loudly. "You all know cancer is a terrible sickness and many people die from it. There are also many who go through chemotherapy and survive, but it is not a promising thing."
His words drilled into me because I didn't believe them. I didn't know much about it but wanted to believe that most people made it.
"There are many types of cancer. Lung, brain, breast, and many more." I couldn't take anymore. I got up and started running out of the classroom.
"Ms. Day where are you going?" Mr. Greg asked.
"Sabrina?" Landon's voice was close behind me. I was running down the hall when he grabbed my wrist.
"Sabrina what's wrong?" I turned around; tears streamed down my face.
He pulled me into him and we sat down under some lockers. "Please tell me what's wrong." He pleaded; cradling me against his chest.
"My mom has cancer. And when Mr. Greg started talking about people not making it," I tried shaking the thought from my head. It didn't work. "What if my mom doesn't make it? I wouldn't be able to go on Landon. I can't handle this, it's too much. I have to though, I have to stay strong for my family, I am the only one who can. My dad can't, I mean really mom is his world. And my little sister Emma, she doesn't really understand and is really afraid. So it is up to me, but I am slowly falling apart. I'm scared Landon, really scared." More tears can faster, as I spoke.
"Sabrina," he pulled me closer to his chest, "I'm really sorry. Don't be afraid, your mom will be just fine. I promise. I'm always here for you, okay? Never forget that." He wiped away some tears falling down my face. "We are ditching, come on."
"No, we can't. What if Mr. Greg thinks we planned all that to ditch?"
"I will talk to him after school. Trust me, kay?"
"Okay," I had to trust him. I had a feeling he would be a big help.
I got up from his lap and offered my hand. He smiled and took it. He didn't let go as we walked down the hall.
"Just to be clear you don't like me right?" I said looking from him to our hands.
"Nope, but we are friends." He smiled as walked outside to the parking lot.
"So where are we going?"
"The park. It's really big, its outside, and really close. Kinda perfect actually. I go there often." He smiled and started walking to his truck.
"What do you do there?"
"I just relax and think." He smiled as if there was more to the story.
We got in his truck and drove off. We talked a little about what we did this weekend and when we arrived at the park I rushed out.
"You seem excited," he smiled.
"Well, I want to make this 'ditching' thing quick so we wont get in trouble."
"We will be back by lunch I promise."
"So we are basically skipping two classes?" I almost yelled.
He laughed, "You will be okay, trust me."
I sighed and we walked over to a big oak tree. We sat down and began to talk about things. We talked about everything from favorite foods to childhood memories. Later we walked to the swings and talked even more there. Surprisingly I had a good time. The talking didn't stop until he walked me to my locker when we were back at school.
"See you in History," Landon waved and walked away.
"What the heck were you doing with him?" Lacey was right behind me.
"I had a breakdown in biology and he made me ditch till lunch." i said simply.
"A breakdown? Why?"
"We are talking about cancer today and last night I found out my mom has breast cancer. I told myself I needed to stay strong for my family but obviously that didn't last long."
Her face was full of shock and her eyes wide with sadness. "Sabrina, I'm so sorry." She hugged me.
"I'll be okay as long as you don't mention my ditching to Heath or Gavin." I said hugging her back.
"I promise. Now let's go eat, I'm starved." We started walking to the cafeteria. "Are you going to tell everyone about your Mom?"
"Everyone at our table," I said.
"Okay, I will be here for you okay? I promise," Lacey said almost the exact same as Landon.
After telling the table I felt better. Krissy hugged me and said she and her mom will pray for my whole family. Ashton told me his aunt and GRandma made it through Cancer with chemo. These things, and the hugs, made me a little less worried and I was glad.
