"I'll call you later Sabrina," Heath kissed me.
"Kay," I smiled and hopped out of his car.
I walked into my house to find my parents and younger sister sitting in the living room.
"Hey guys," I said in a cheery voice.
"Please sit down Sabrina," My father said in a voice that scared me.
His voice scared me because it said no good was going to come of this talk. Frightened to death, I sat in our big maroon and gold chair. I looked at my sister in the chair next to me. She shrugged her shoulders.
"Girls, your mom has been diagnosed with Breast cancer."
The room went silent except for my mothers sobs that broke out. It stayed like that for a good 5 minutes until my little sister finally spoke.
Tears began to roll down her cheeks, "What's going to happen to mommy?"
"She will have to go through something called Chemotherapy, honey." My father spoke softly as my mothers sobs softened. "The Chemotherapy might be able to help or might not. It will cause Mommy's hair to fall out but don't be afraid, it is what happens when people have chemo."
Emma ran to me. I picked her up and cradled her against me. Her tears soaked in my shirt. My dad had my mom wrapped in his arms. I carried Emma up to my room. We sat on my bed and I handed her some tissues. I couldn't cry, at least not yet. I had to be strong so I could help my family. Emma rested her head on my lap.
"I just don't understand, why our mom? What did she do?" she whispered and I felt her tears on my jeans.
"I don't understand either Emma, I don't understand." I whispered back as i stroked her blonde hair.
Suddenly my phone started to ring. I got it out of my bag next to me.
"Heath," I said into the phone.
"Hey Sabrina," He said.
His voice hurt me. All I wanted was to be held in his arms. "How has your afternoon been?" My voice cracked mid sentence.
"Sabrina, what's wrong?" he said worried.
I fought away the tears and glanced down at Emma on my lap. "My mother has been diagnosed with Breast Cancer," I whispered into the phone.
"Aw man Sabrina, I'm so sorry. Are you okay?" he sounded concerned.
"Yes, I wish you were here though. Emma on the other hand is a mess."
"I wish I were there too. And let me talk to Emma," I handed the phone to Emma.
"It's Heath," I whispered.
"Hi Heath," her voice was filled with tears.
She lay listening to what Heath had to say.
"You really think so?" she asked.
"Thanks Heath," she said
"Yes," she handed me my phone.
"Thank you," I said to her and Heath.
"I'm really sorry Sabrina. I love you." He said.
"I love you too. See you tomorrow."
"Pick you up at 8:30 kay?"
"Kay, Nite."
"Night."
I hung up and took Emma to her room. I asked her if she was hungry and she said no. I hugged her and went back to my room. After finishing homework, I made sandwiches for me and my sister. I brought them to her room and we ate together. She might be eight years old but I love to talk with her. We got ready for bed and went to sleep.
