I looked around at all of the people praying silently in their pews, at the end of which sat a morbid bunch of flowers. I look at all the lonely people. Not one of them with a smile on their pale faces, plastered with grief. The church was silent apart from the heart-wrenching sobs from my hysterical mother. What was she doing here? The priest was not his usual happy self either and it seemed that he, along with everyone else, was overcome by sadness. No one looked at me as I cautiously made my way to the altar at the front of the church. I was invisible to them. Why? Look at me! I wanted to shout but it was no use, I had already tried. Over and over again. That was when I noticed the coffin. That would explain it, I thought. Only, I wasn’t expecting to see my face staring back at me. I jumped back in surprise and yelped. “What the hell is happening?”

I turned back to my mother, kneeling beside my family and friends. It was the most horrid sight I had ever seen. A sight I wished I would never see again. One I didn’t understand. Until slowly, it began to dawn on me. It was a dreadful realization.

I was dead.
