I walked out of the study and decided to take a shower. I stood in the shower and let the hot water run through my hair that I had just finished washing. I did this most times, just stood in the shower so I could feel the hot water on my back, and on my skull. It felt nice. I stepped out and turned the water off, I got dressed into the same clothes I had been wearing this morning. Mum hates it when I wear more than 1 outfit for one day.
I spent most of the day in my room, on my laptop. I felt it was time to face my old friends and... And what? What was I going to tell them? That some people who are immortal just like me by the way were after me? No. I couldn’t tell them anything. But I could still apologize for not saying goodbye. Yes, I could that much for them. I opened up my hotmail account and checked my emails, most of them were the same as the text messages I had received the other day. I replied to all of them explaining that it was short notice and I was sorry that I couldn’t give them the chance to say goodbye.
I knock on the door startled me. “Come in.” I called.
It was Nathan. “Okay, I have a problem. You see the thing is there is this bowling alley about 10minutes drive away and I have been invited. But I can’t get in without you. And I want to go so you’re going to have to come with me at least for just this once”
I sighed. Of course he couldn’t get in without me, I was really starting to get sick of the guys behaviour already. I thought about it, bowling. I didn’t bowl but then again all I could do was sit around and watch them play. Boring yes, but I needed a new distraction.
“Fine, I will come, but only because I need a distraction from lies and my now complicated secret life”
“Thank you Alyson. You rock!” He always says that when I do something he wants. “Oh, and by the way were leaving in like 10minutes, so if you want to change then you have to hurry” He added as he walked out of my room. And I did want to change my top at least, I loved these pants they were one of my favourite denim pieces.
My new top was a silky light green top, with white buttons going down the middle. It had elastic at the bottom where it reached my pants, so it was breezy. I pulled on my converses, grabbed my phone, twenty-dollars to have a drink and I was ready to go.
Nathan had his own bowling shoes, just like our whole family, and looked stupid wearing them. But then again, who wouldn’t look stupid wearing bowling shoes. We were in Nathan’s car when he finally started talking, it was almost eight o’clock. “No bowling shoes Huh. I guess that means you’re not playing”
I shook my head. The only reason I came (other than for Nathan) was to get a distraction, but I wasn’t so desperate as to wear bowling shoes.
We pulled up and already there were heaps of cars here. Great, Nathan picked the perfect night to go bowling. We walked in and had to go through a couple of doors to get to the bowling alley. We were a couple of meter’s away when I turned around and started to head back. I felt Nathan’s arm pull me back. “No way are you backing out. You need to have fun.”
“A party? At a bowling alley!” I was angry; I pulled my arm out of his grip. “I can’t believe you. If I wanted to go to a party I would, but I don’t. You know what happened last time; I can’t believe you would do this to me!”
Nathan hadn’t expected me to get so mad that much was obvious. “I’m sorry, but you really do need to have fun, now come on please. I really do need you to be able to get in”
“Fine, but I’m only staying long enough for you to be able to stay without me, then I’m leaving” I walked forward, and Nathan caught up.
“Thanks Ally” I was still annoyed. We came to the doors, and the people there knew who we were. But I bet it was only because we were the new kids. “Charlie’s here so hang with her” He pointed to her, and when she saw me she jumped up and practically ran to me. She gave me a big hug then let go. Nathan had already left.
“I am so happy you made it.”
“You’re going to have to thank Nathan for that”
“Come over here. You’re the only other person from our group who has made it” She pulled me ove to where she was sitting.
“Who have you been talking to?” I asked
She sighed. “Anybody and everybody, there is this totally hot guy I was talking to before you showed up his name is Riley. And he is hot, and I think he likes me-“she continued to talk. I was observing the party. The place reminded me of a nightclub. There were lights, loud music, waiters walking around with drinks. And people were actually bowling; I so did not need this kind of distraction.
A waiter walked over to us and offered us some drinks, Charlie took one and I declined. “Mm. Yum, you have to taste this, it’s delicious”
“No really Charlie I’m fine. The last party I went to was a total disaster, and the drinks were horrible. So I’m fine”
“But this isn’t like that party, I promise” She sure was persistent.
“Seriously Charlie I’m fine”
“Okay don’t look to obviously but Riley is coming this way” I was thankful for the distraction.
I looked and sure enough he was good-looking, but he wasn’t my kind of guy. He was the same height as Nathan and had short black hair; actually he reminded me a lot of Taylor Lautner. Except, Riley is whiter and less bulky, I would prefer Taylor.
He walked right on over and sat down next to Charlie, as he sat down he kissed her check. And of course, she giggled. “Riley this is my friend Alyson, but we call her Ally”
“Hey. You’re new to the town right? I haven’t seen you around here before”
“Hi. Yeah I am”
“Babe, I will be right back I can see some guys from school have arrived. See ya Ally.” He started to walk off, but he turned around. “But first I need my kiss”
He bent down to her, and her face was like as if she was under a spell. His lips touched hers and he opened her much and went for a full tongue kiss. One of his hands slid up her thigh and under her skirt, the other went around her waist, he pulled her to him.
I looked away. That was disgusting, she had barely met the guy and I could tell she planned on getting it on with him. Gross I thought, I looked around for an escape. I saw Nathan alone with Justin, the perfect escape. I could definitely count on my big brother to do me some favours tonight. I looked at Charlie and they were getting it on deeper. I got off the seat and walked over to Nathan and Justin. I must have looked sick because Nathan was alerted.
“What’s wrong? Are you okay?” He was over worrying for me, I felt it should be Justin worrying about his sister.
“I’m fine, but if I have to see that again I’m going to be sick.” I tried really hard not to remember what was going on. Nathan looked confused, and Justin looked amused.
“Can’t handle a party Parker?” That was uncalled for.
“Oh I can handle a party. I just can’t handle having Charlie getting it on with a guy she only met tonight while she is sitting next to me” I shot back. Justin’s smile was no longer there.
“Charlie can take care of herself. She doesn’t need me constantly bugging her, and watching out for her-“He cut off when he looked in Charlie’s and Riley’s direction. “- And besides she is having me speak to her after the party about that.” He was facing us again, so he just tilted his head so we knew who he was talking about.
Nathan laughed. “Now you look sick”
“You would too if you saw it, the worst thing was she just didn’t do anything. It just like as if she was enchanted or something, and all he had to do was say was ‘kiss’ and she surrendered to him. And FYI it was not something you would want to see”.
“Whatever, I still don’t think it is that bad” He looked over to them and immediately turned his head away. “Ah, Justin you might want to tell your sister that taking her clothes off in public isn’t cool”
“Okay. If what you said is true, I’m definitely going to be sick”
I turned to ask Justin a question, but he had disappeared. I was heard some shouting, I looked into Charlie’s mind and she had her clothes on which was a huge relief. I turned around and saw Justin and Riley yelling at each other. It was closely turning into a fight, but Riley turned away. As he turned he saw me watching them, and he winked at me. Nathan saw it too.
“If he comes anywhere near you like that, I don’t care if you want it to happen or not I’m knocking the guy out” He said, he sounded dangerous. And in that moment I saw his immortal instincts come out and I didn’t doubt that he could knock him out.
“Don’t worry” I said. “I can take care of myself”
I walked over to Charlie, she looked shocked and scared. I knew how she was feeling, and it wasn’t something I liked.
“Charlie? Are you okay?” I asked
She looked up at me and relief flooded onto her face. “I don’t know what happened. I mean, I don’t know what happened to me. I just couldn’t stop and some part of me kept telling me not to stop, but deep down I did.” She looked up at Justin. “Thankyou” He nodded and walked away.
Charlie spent the next two hours giving me the download of everything that has happened that is under the gossip category. It was almost 10:00pm.
“I’m thirsty. Do you want a drink?” Charlie asked.
“No thanks, I’m fine” I said again.
“You haven’t drunk anything all night, I wouldn’t be surprised if you fainted because you’re dehydrated Ally”
“Seriously. I’m fine, I will wait here”.
“Okay, I will be right back” She got up from the couch and walked off to get a drink. I had no idea where he came from, but all of a sudden Riley was sitting next to me on the couch.
“Hi. Ally right?” He asked. I knew perfectly well that he remembered my name; he never forgets people’s names.
“Get lost! My friend, Charlie is sitting there and she is going to be back soon, so you can leave. Now” I added. I wasn’t asking for him to leave he is going to leave.
“Can’t, it’s a free country, and besides you don’t own it” He added. You certainly can own me. I heard his thoughts, and that made me that much angrier.
“Fine then, you won’t leave. I will.” I stood up and as I walked past him he grabbed my hand, stood up and pulled me to face him.
“Don’t be like that baby. I know you want me” he started me in the eyes. But to his amazement I didn’t budge, I did however try to loosen me hand from his grip.
“Don’t call me that. And let go of my hand” I said fiercely. I continued to try to pull my hand back, but I couldn’t. For someone who was human he was awfully strong.
“Calm down, it won’t take long until you feel the same way” I could hear Charlie making her way from the heels she was wearing and I prayed she would get Nathan.
All of a sudden his other hand wound around my waist and pulled my lips to his. I reacted, but not the way he wanted. I pulled back and I let my right hand close into a fist, thumb inside, and I felt it snap forward against his nose. He stumbled back and released his hold against me. I heard Charlie walking, almost jogging away, to go find Nathan. Good, he will help me. He stood up and seemed completely dazed. His nose was bleeding, and it was bleeding fast.
I looked down at my closed fist and there was blood on it too. Gross, I’m going to have to wash that off.
“Whoa there, There is no need for violence, like I said before you will see things my way soon you know” He made a bad choice, he took a step forward. And I felt some deeply-hidden instinct snap my right leg forward, it hit his gut. My kicks were more powerful then my punches, he fell back into a red table and snapped it. He must be a heavy to break a table. Everyone’s eyes were on us, I could feel them as if they weighed a hundred tonnes. My brother showed up with Charlie and Justin not far behind. The manager then came out.
“What’s going on out here?” I hid my knuckles on my right hand against my thigh so nobody could see the blood.
“Nothing, I was just leaving-“I turned to give a dazzling smile at Riley, the kind my mother said I was never to do as it was a sign of immortality. “- I was just saying goodbye to Riley there when he tripped and fell into the table” I lied smoothly to the manager. Nobody said I was lying, and I had a feeling that they were too scared to say anything, I was right.
“Okay, you” he pointed to Riley. “Are coming with me”
Riley stood up walked past me and gave me a glare; I just gave him a cold-killing beautiful smile.
As soon as the manager left, the people tried to make everything back to normal. The music was played, the lights continued to spin, and people started dancing again. Nathan, Charlie and Justin just stared at me. I walked past them and ran to the door; I pushed it open and started walking. I didn’t know where I was walking to, only that I had to get away from the party. This is why I didn’t go partying.
I was about two streets away from the bowling alley when I started to run. I needed to get the adrenaline out of me, those deeply buried instincts were coming out of me, and I could feel it. And I needed to get rid of it.
I didn’t know how long I was running for, but I did turn up somewhere. A park, I slowed my running to a walk, and walked on over to the swings. I hadn’t been on a swing in a long time. I sat down on the swing to rest my legs. I started to swing, I loved the feel so of the wind rustling in my hair, it made me feel like I could fly, well really fly not just hover. I sunk back in my seat and went higher. And higher, I loved it. It was so distracted by the feel of the swings that when something hit my back it was unexpected. I let out a scream of surprise as I fell off of the swings and landed face first onto the ground. I picked myself up and spun around, what I saw was not something I would have expected.
Riley, he looked mad. I also noticed with some surprise that the tip of his nose was slightly wonky. If I was in any other circumstances I would have laughed. But not now, not when he looked so enraged, and angry, and well violent.
“Little bitch, that’s what you are. And it’s not the only thing you are either. You’re an immortal. Shall I tell you how I know that? It’s because what I did doesn’t work on you, it works on humans and sometimes it works on immortals when I have planted it. Just like Charlie, she though was a lot easier than any of immortals, she didn’t even know I was an immortal” He stood there looking dangerous. I know, I could have said. I had just spent that whole speech searching his mind. But I was confused about Charlie? She wasn’t an immortal?
“But you, you have some sort of shield around you. That’s the only reason why nothing happened between us, and well when you kicked me and I broke the table. That was a kind of give away. You didn’t even know I was an immortal, you-“I cut him off.
“How would you know I didn’t know you were an immortal? You have no proof of that, maybe I came out here knowing you would come and find me” I finished.
He laughed. ‘You wouldn’t know, you can’t know. You have your shield power and that’s it. It’s useless if you ask me.” He clearly didn’t know anything; I decided it was time to test him on how much he did know.
“Since you’re so smart tell me something. What family do I belong to?” I didn’t say royal family, I didn’t say immortal family, I just said family. Saying one would have given away too many clues about my family.
“Clearly just an immortal family, you’re nothing special I would know if you were”
“Hmm. But you wouldn’t understand, not when your family isn’t even royal. And how would you know if I wasn’t something special. My shield does more than one thing you know.” I added tauntingly.
He processed what I said over in his mind. Don’t listen to her she is just trying to confuse you! He was telling himself that over and over again. I let out an evil angelic laugh,
“Just trying to confuse you am I? Tell me Riley, why did you follow me out here tonight?” I noticed that I was letting more and more of my immortal instincts take me over. I had learned to keep them hidden for so long and now that they were leaving I couldn’t stop them.
“I’m here to take revenge”. He wanted to kill me, in other words.
“Go ahead and try” I said very clearly.
He actually took my advice, and lunged at me. I wasn’t expecting his body weight to be that heavy, but it was. I was lying with my back on the ground and my hands were trying to get him off of me. I grabbed a fist full of sand that lay underneath the swings and threw it in his eyes. He cried out. And that gave me enough time to shove him off of me. I was all immortal; I couldn’t even remember what trying to be mortal was anymore. I felt my force fields work with his mind, I compressed his head in his brain, and he screamed out in pain. I stopped. He was on his hands and knees now, panting hard. I just looked down at him. I pulled a force shield over him so he was trapped in that space. He looked up at me and then leaped up- he hit his head of my shield and fell on the ground, he was groaning in pain.
“Let me tell you something Riley O’Donnell, You don’t know who you are messing with. And since you now know, I’m afraid I have nothing else to do but kill you. Unless you can tell me why I should let you live”
“I didn’t know. I swear I didn’t know you could do that”
“So you thought it was okay to come get revenge like you intended and didn’t expect me to be able to hurt you back? You disgust me, you know that now. “
I walked away and felt my shield pull away from him. I heard him heave himself up and then I felt my shields go up as he tried to attack me from behind. Now it was my turn to lunge at him. And I did, I used my abilities with me and used my shield to push him down. I felt my fist connect with his face, again and again. I was violent, and my instincts were out of control.
He dropped to the ground. And I went to kneel beside him. I could tell he was dying, I could hear his heart softening; I could hear his breaths shorten. I bent down to his ear and whispered: “We all have our own little secret’s don’t we riley?” I said as the last of his heart beats pounded in his chest.
