“Do you know who the Colta family is?” Justin asked as we closed the door.
“There one of the royal families” I said simply.
“Yes and my uncle don’t like them either. Are you sure you want to do this?” I knew what ‘this’ he was talking about.
“Of course I do, he can’t be locked down there just because of who he is and his last name” I was partly offended.
“We could get into a lot of trouble if this gets out into the immortal world”
“My family is just as much in this as the Colta family. We ran away, I have my abilities and now I am an heir to the Suffix throne and council seat. And the Suffix family doesn’t exactly have very big social standards in the positives either.” I added
“True, but then again every family has their bad sides”
“And what about your family the Cadwell’s?” I asked.
He didn’t say anything, and for a moment I wondered if I had crossed a discussion boundary. I looked down at the floor as the atmosphere grew uncomfortable.
“Sorry, if that was the wrong question to ask” I said. And that made it all that more awkward and uncomfortable.
“I have to see my uncle about something, I will talk to you later” He didn’t even give me a chance to reply before he practically ran away from me. I stood in the hallway and wondered what could have made him run away like that. I pushed the thought aside, men were complicated and there was obviously no way I was going to be able figure out his mind in ten minutes.
I walked into my bedroom and lied down on my bed. What was I going to do now? I was still a hostage, and I was an heir to a throne and council seat I didn’t want. What did my family think of my disappearance? I had confessed to Nathan that morning of being a killer, do they think I ran away because of that? I hope they had some way of finding me, but if they found me that would make the war between immortals that much more dangerous.
I had no idea what to do, and I had no hope for them coming to find me. Maybe William is getting Charlie to cover up and make some stupid story of a teenage runaway. I wonder if Nathan or anybody has figured out what has happened, and if I were William I would be scared of Nathan and dad. They could be scary when they wanted to be.
I got off the bed and walked over to the windows. I have been missing in the immortal world for almost 48 hours now. Maybe they have figured out what happened. But that wasn’t what I needed to think about, what I needed to think about was what I was going to do if they had.
I gazed out the window for a little while longer, and then let the curtain hang down. I still stood there, my muscles were sleepy. I walked out of the room to find William; I needed more information on when Drew was coming out.
It was dark now, so I hedged my bets on him being in his own room. I let my hearing expand trying to pick up if William was in there or not. And he was, and he was with Justin.
“Uncle I am begging you”
“I can’t let her go, she has already been crowned”
“But what about her family, they are going to figure something out if word gets lose, and not mention that she is missing”
“Justin I am not going to give Alyson up just because that is what you want” William said each word slowly, to make his point across.
“It’s not just because it is what I want. It is because she needs to get away from here, she is going to be a target. They are coming, and I bet anything that they are coming here for her. We need to get her to safety if you want her as your heir”
Who was coming? What was going on?
“Justin calm down, she is perfectly safe here where she has guards and she won’t be left alone. How do I know? Because from the way you are acting you won’t be letting her out of your sight” He said that in such sureness even I didn’t doubt him.
“And what if I have to defend her, and there is nobody else and someone gets through?”
“Justin Cadwell calm down. She will be safe and she probably won’t even know about it until after it has happened. And besides, I think she is able to look after herself”
I could faintly hear Justin groaning. “I know, that’s the problem”
I walked away slowly and confused. What was going on? What is happening?
As soon as I was out of their hearing range I started running to the front of the castle. I didn’t know my way around the castle, but I did know most of it. I came to a halt as I stood by the big wooden gates, so medieval, I thought.
I walked to the door on my left and walked up the spiral stair case I came to a dead end as I approached another door. A locked door. I swore under my breath and begun making my way back down to the first floor. I stood there thinking about the possibilities of what could be so dangerous as to have Justin want me out. I didn’t mind out, getting out of here that is.
“Miss Valence, my master has asked to make sure you are safe in your room” A guard approached. Honestly, I had no idea why William would need guards, it seemed ridiculous.
“I am quite able to get myself to my own room, thank you anyway” I walked off.
I made it to my room but instead of going inside I continued walking. I wanted to get something to eat so I made my way to the kitchens. I opened the door to blackness, nobody was in. Good, I would be able to get something remotely normal to eat.
I flicked on the light holding my breath, expecting something to jump from its hiding place and attack me. As it happens, nothing did happen.
I let go of my breath and made my way to the fridge to get an apple to eat.
Ten minutes later I finally found a green apple sitting on a stool I began eating it. I didn’t realise how hungry I had gotten with all of my activity. I began day dreaming about going home and pretending that none of this ever happened when a siren went off.
My head snapped up and looked out the window, putting my apple down on the table I made my way to the window to see the commotion.
All I could see where men and horses. What is going on?
They were all dressed in red and marching into the castle, since when did William have an army? Shaking my head I walked out of the kitchen and into the dining hall.
I pushed open the door and called out: “William since when have you had an army-“A glove clasped over my mouth blocking my speech, and taking me away from the doors.
I was put into the ball room; he locked the doors on both ends and blocked the blinds with metal blinders. I gasped.
“JUSTIN!” I whispered yelled. I had no idea why I was keeping quiet, but I had a feeling I should. “What on earth is going on?”
He looked at me. “They’re immortals, and there here for you”
I blinked and stood frozen, processing what he said in my mind.
“Who would send an army to come get me?”
He looked at me as if it was obvious, and it was. “Your family”
Before he could react I bolted to the doors pulled them open and made my down the hall running. “Alyson, No!” Justin called from behind me.
I stopped, and looked at him. “I’m sorry Justin, but they’re my family I need to go home. This is your home not mine”
I begun running again, and came to a screeching halt when I saw what was around the corner. Men were fighting, killing each other, it was a battle field. And it was all because of me!
I grabbed the first horse I could and put her into a gallop away from the battlefield, and to the back part of the castle.
I shouldn’t have been surprised that William didn’t want to let me go, but the army he had pulled at the last entrance was amazing. My horse reared and I held on tightly.
I raced the other way, and was blocked between William’s army and the battlefield. If I wanted out, which I did I would have to go through the battle. Taking a deep breath I made my way through the battle field trying not to look at the bodies that were bleeding and mangled before me.
Try, I still saw.
They were horrid, I have seen a lot of scary movies with mangled bodies in them, but they were nothing compared to this.
I tore my gaze away and payed attention to my direction. When I looked up I locked gazes with someone, Justin.
He wasn’t going to let me go without a fight, I could tell by the way he looked. Already he was bleeding, bruised and cut. “I’M SORRY!” I screamed as I raced past him and to the wooden gates. Shit! They were lowering, I looked up and saw William standing there looking proud for himself for blocking me off.
I caught his gaze and gave him a smug and evil look. I closed my eyes and with all of my concentration I knocked down the wooden double doors. They hit the floor making a bang that would have echoed throughout the castle. I kicked my horse into a gallop and raced out of there, trying to hold onto my conscience. It wasn’t working, I could faintly see people up ahead, whether they were my family or not I wasn’t sure.
I put my head down against my horse’s mane, and felt myself sink into the uncontrolled blackness in my mind.
