Destined - Chapter 46- Letting her go *IN LOGAN'S POV* (chapter 47) by Rachel
description:
There’s a line between good and evil, but what happens when that line is blurred?
Roxi was a normal teenager up until two years ago when fate left her no choice but to become a vampire. Necessary for her to live; it wasn’t something she chose. Does that make her evil? Roxi doesn’t think so. With that choice taken out of her hands, she made the only one she could let herself make. She chose not to give into her nature, but to rise above it.
Despite having to hide, who and what she now is from the people who matter most, Roxi was living her life as best she could. That was until someone from her past resurfaced. Someone who wants Roxi to take a different path than the one she chose. Someone who won’t let her go.
Now Roxi is left with no choice but to work alongside her natural enemy, the very people who hunt her kind- Vampire Hunters. Embarking on a shared mission proves difficult as hunters and vampires clash. They say keep your friends close and your enemies closer, but how do you accomplish that when your enemies no doubt want you dead?
Throw in a supposed destiny that Roxi doesn’t believe in, and a hunter named Logan who may be more than he seems, life’s getting complicated. As Roxi fights to prove she’s more than the hunters think she is, Logan’s learning that not everything is black and white, and soon Roxi begins feeling things for him she knows she shouldn’t.
But when tragedy strikes and Roxi’s world is shattered, she must decide whether to give up, and lose all she is, or fight to complete the mission. Suddenly the stakes are higher, as the realisation that maintaining what’s left of her already broken world may come at a price. One that Roxi’s not sure she’s willing to pay, or even if her heart will allow her too.

She listened to me, moving towards the door. She slid through it and flew down the stairs. Following her through the open door onto the porch, my hands clenched into tight fists at my side, I struggled to stay there and not follow her. I told myself that this was the best thing for her, the best way to keep her safe.
“Wait!” she shrieked, reaching the bottom of the stairs and turning back towards me once again. “How will I contact you?” Her eyes were wide, and the worry and fear in them made something surge inside me.
I swallowed, knowing that contacting me would be the worst possible thing she could do. “You don’t,” I told her, hoping that she’d listen to me, just this once. “I’ll contact you.”
“But how? You won’t even know where I am,” she told me, and I knew she was right. Absolutely right. “How will you-”
“I’ll find you,” I cut in, not allowing her to finish what she was saying, and hoping to speed her along. “I’ll find you Roxi,” I told her. And I would. I didn’t have a clue how, but I would. Even if it was the last thing I did, I’d find her. I’d search the ends of the Earth.
Accepting what I’d said, she held my gaze a moment longer and my own insides dropped. Then she turned and raced towards the Lancer, but not before I saw the few tears that ran down her cheeks. My heart lurched and as I watched her go, the only person who actually mattered to me, it took all my strength and self control to let her.
I didn’t want to, but I knew I had to. I wanted to protect her above anything else, and even though there was a time when I never could have believed I could actually care about her like that, it was how I felt now.
My jaw was clenched and as I watched the Lancer speed down the Lodge’s driveway and disappear around the corner, I headed back inside. I quietly closed the door behind myself and leaned back into it, resting my head back. It’s a strange thing, but I swear all I could feel was the emptiness of not knowing when I’d see Roxi again, and the sting of the betrayal from the hunters. I was supposed to lead them and they were supposed to follow. Yes, I’d kept things from them, my growing attraction to Roxi being the issue, but they’d kept things from me I’d never imagined they would. How could I ever trust them now?
I closed my eyes, attempting to steady my breathing, and tried to look at things from a clear point of view. It was useless. There was no other direction for me now. When I thought of what was going on, I only saw Roxi. A few months ago I’d have scoffed at the idea of putting a vampire ahead of myself, or the people around me. Or my job, my lifestyle. Now there wasn’t another option, there was nothing else I could see myself doing.
I swallowed. I had a few important questions to ask myself.
Had letting Roxi go been the right thing to do?
I sighed.
Yes.
Did I love her?
My heart gave a squeeze in response and I smiled dryly.
Yes.
Was I willing to go up against the other hunters if I had to? Was I willing to risk everything I had, perhaps even my own life, for her?
I opened my eyes, knowing they were wide and blazing. My determination obvious to anyone who saw me.
Hell yes!
Now I just had to figure out what to do, not to mention who I could trust. No matter how I felt, I knew I couldn’t completely turn my back on the Micah mission and I knew that Roxi couldn’t either. We had to stop him, with the help of the other hunters or not.
“Hey! Was that Roxi I just heard leaving?” a familiar voice spoke.
I flinched, and cursing myself for being so jumpy and not in control of myself, turned to see Greg standing on the edge of the steps. He looked at me, waiting for answers and I stared back at him, unsure if I could trust him. Greg was the closest thing I had to a mate amongst the hunters, but could I trust him with this? And if yes, was I willing to risk him too?
He seemed to take my silence as conformation. “Good,” he said, stepping down the last step and walking to my side. “We’ll be able to deal with this better with her safely out of the way.”
I narrowed my eyes at him, but smiled despite myself. “We?” I asked hesitantly, needing to be sure.
“Of course,” he grunted. “I like Roxi, and believe it or not, some of the covenant members weren’t that bad. I don’t think it was right what happened to them. And I’m not the only one.” He shrugged, before smiling. “Besides.....you don’t actually think I’d let you handle this on your own, do you?” he asked, slapping me on the back. “Nah, I’m with you man. With this and anything else in the future. I’m behind you, and I’ve got your back. Always.”
I looked at him, nodding my head slowly. “Thanks, I appreciate that, I really do.” And I did. More than he knew. This was gonna be difficult to deal with and having someone else on my side was a big deal. I was grateful for it. “Now I just have to figure out if anyone else shares your feelings,” I told him, running a hand through my hair. I needed to have a clear head and not to be thinking about Roxi. And worrying about her, and trying to figure out how in the world I was going to find her, not to mention when I could find her...... which I was.
I could still vaguely hear Greg speaking, yet my attention was diverted. Damn it! I couldn’t be acting like this. Couldn’t be thinking about this. I needed to be looking at how to solve the mission, keep Roxi safe and more importantly vanquish Micah. But was I doing that? Oh no, I was thinking about Roxi, and how long until it was safe for me to go find her. I had to get my priorities straight, but it was really hard. She made me insane, feeling things I never had before, and ever since I’d met her all I thought about, all I could focus on, was her.
I could think about Roxi later, I told myself; first I’d focus on figuring out who, both Greg and I, could trust and how they could potentially help us. Grey was a whole different case, I couldn’t ask a lot of the hunters to turn their backs on Frank. They never would, and I couldn’t expect them to. Not everyone felt the way I did. Not everyone saw things the way I now did.
“About that.....” Greg said, continued, capturing my attention once again. “I actually think that some of the guys would be willing to listen to what you have to say. Things are changing man, not everyone feels the way they used to.”
I nodded. “Alright, we’ll see who can work with us,” I told him, looking at him pointedly again. “Are you sure you’re ready for this?” I asked.
“Yeah, Logan man, I am,” he answered.
Good, I thought, because things were about to get complicated.....
Writers Note:
Okay, so it ended up being a bit more than a page and a half on word once I edited it, haha. I hope you guys enjoyed this chapter. It gives you a slight idea into what's going on inside Logan's head without giving away anything of what's to come. Thanks again for everyone's feedback, I really appreciate it
