When I’m right, I’m right.
To say Logan and I didn’t get along would be the understatement of the century. We couldn’t have a conversation without disagreeing or arguing and I knew the more I pushed him, the more he would hate me. I had enough problems without having to deal with a dangerous hunter with a personal grudge against me. Yet at the same time, I couldn’t help feeing the anger and frustration he caused me to feel. Everything he said was either nasty or sarcastic, and that gave me the urge to talk back. So in the end, for the sake of the mission and my life, I stopped having contact with him altogether. I worked with the Death Walkers only and got my instructions off Claudia.
The majority of the Death Walkers weren’t so happy to be working with hunters. We all knew we had no choice in that matter, but the distrust we felt towards them, that was written on all of our faces. You’d have to be blind not to see it.
The hunters for the most were cold as ice and still as stone. They wore faces as blank as can be, with no emotion and no feeling. Aside from the hunter Greg, who didn’t appear to feel one way or another about us, nobody addressed us unless required too.
We got our orders from Quintenn, who in turn got them from Frank Morgan. When we were in the field we listened to Logan’s instructions and followed as such. We also appointed Ben to be in constant contact with Logan. We felt he was the only one capable of communicating with him and still be able to keep a cool head. They spoke tactics and I even saw that Logan sometimes treated Ben with the respect he deserved. He took into consideration Ben’s experience and ideas. We made a good choice, I don’t think I could be able to do what Ben was doing, and besides I’d wanna kill Logan.

Weeks passed and with the trail for Micah getting harder and harder to track we were getting desperate. I could only imagine that the hunters would put up with us, without finding any new information, for so long. We would be in a lot of trouble if they turned on us now.
I had to give it to Micah; he knew how to cover his tracks well. He always had. That was one of our problems. The other was that, as news of our partnership with the hunters spread, fewer vampires were willing to speak to us. Our own contacts went into hiding and the grape vine was a very quiet place to be.
I couldn’t blame them for hiding. They had every reason to fear. Hell, we were working with the hunters and even we didn’t trust them. So as our raids turned up nothing people were starting to take extreme measures.



“I don’t know anything, I swear.”
“Your lying.” The cold voice that was becoming increasingly familiar, answered.
“I am not.” The guy looked ready to wet himself.
As I watched Logan slam the tiny, slimy vampire up against the ally wall, I couldn't help but analyse our current predicament.
We were in the ally of the fourth club we’d infiltrated tonight. The fourth place we knew vampires liked to prowl. It was wet, smelly and not at all inviting and for all that we found nothing.
The moment Claudia and I had slipped into the club, dressed in skimpy dresses and playing bait, we had attracted many suitors both human and vampire. Shaking off our human pursuers, we had offered the remaining vampire men, and one woman (I swear, only Claudia is capable of that) a chance to slip away alone outside. Outside where, unbeknown to them, the hunters and other Death Walkers waited, ready to strike. Easy.
Not so it appeared because here we stood. Again.
It was freezing and late out. I shivered and clutched my arms, rubbing my goose bumps. Claudia kept looking down the ally nervously. Glancing up, I saw the name of the club on its neon sign: BlackOut. I laughed, my teeth chattering. This was a club Claudia frequently came too for fun. I remembered, because I recalled her asking me to come once. I guess it shouldn’t really surprise me that this place appealed to her. She loved nothing more than a good night out, but it still did.
“I don’t know anyone named Micah.” The vampire was around 25. He was immortal, so it wouldn’t surprise me if he was lying, I thought. You never know with those types.
“Besides,” he spat “even if I did know I wouldn’t tell you hunter.”

Logan lifted the guy higher off the ground with one hand, before pulling a knife on him. Logan was wearing black jeans with a grey t-shirt on loosly over a black one. They were tight fitting and that was a big knife. Or was it a dagger? Either way, where in the world had he been hiding that!
“Lets try this again and how about this time you don’t lie to me” Logan positioned the knife over the vampires heart. “Where is Micah?”
“You're crazy hunter. Crazy and pathetic. I wouldn’t tell you anything.”
His eyes flicked towards me and my heart stopped. There was a look in his eyes. All too knowing and I didn’t like it. Suddenly everything felt wrong and too easy. If this guy really was working for Micah, he’d never let him be treated like this.
“Logan, stop!” I blurted and stepped forward at the same time about a dozen vampires appeared and attacked us. They came out of thin air.
Everything happened at once. I barely had time to get a grip on Logan’s shoulder and yank him out of the way, as the vampire produced a knife of his own and swung it at Logan.
Hunters are human, they don’t heal like a vampire can, and I’m sure that if I hadn’t acted when I did Logan would be dead by now. Instead of connecting with any part of him, the knife sliced my left wrist, before Logan pushed me aside and, grabbing the vampires arm, drove the knife into his heart. He gave a shriek and crumpled to the floor.
All around us hunters and Death Walkers were squaring off against the other vampires. There were only 7 left at this point and as far as I could tell everyone on our side was still alive. Claudia even looked like she was having fun. I could see her laughing as she patronized the vampire that was coming at her. He would be no match for her and as I watched her, I noticed my vision was getting blurry.

“Here let me see!” I felt Logan’s fingers on my wrist pulling me closer to him, deeper inside the ally and away from all the chaos. Looking down for the first time I saw; blood.
The gash on my wrist was deep and the blood was seeping out, flowing onto the all floor.
I gulped.
Yes, vampires could heal. Bullets and most wounds were no problem, but we could still die from blood loss. It wasn’t something I’d had to deal with before and yes, I was losing a lot of blood.
The only way you can kill a vampire is through beheading, a knife to the heart or loss of blood. There is another way but it’s not widely known, I don’t even think the hunters knew about it. But Logan certainly knew about the loss of blood.
“Don’t move” he pulled his grey shirt off and started to wrap it around my wrist.
For the first time, I didn’t say anything. I didn’t argue back, I just concentrated on blinking away the stars I was beginning to see. I started to sway and went to lean against the wall, but Logan pulled me down and we sat on the floor.
He was squeezing my wrist tightly and the pressure was intense. His whole hands wrapped around the big mess that was my wrist.
Still, I said nothing.
We both knew that if we could get the bleeding to stop I could start to heal. If not......
I took another look at the ally, stained with my blood. Shit!
