Thump, thump, the pounding of my feet on the cold, stone steps threatened to give away my location. I stopped running to see if the guards were following, lucky for me, they were too drunk to notice the extra noise. I ran a little further until I came upon a glowing blue cross on a stone, the mark of magic, and knew I was close.
I began running my hand along the wall until I felt four little grooves in the otherwise smooth surface. I lined up my fingers in the grooves and pressed down hard. The stones began rearranging themselves to make a small doorway. I knelt down and began crawling into the small, dark passageway. I pressed the release button on the other side of the doorway, and the stones returned to their original place.
I was immersed in total darkness. I began hyperventilating while I was crawling. “Stop that, Sarah! You are perfectly fine!” I said to myself, half- heartedly. I came to the end of the tunnel and climbed out through the door, just as the men dressed in black finished their ritual.
I gasped. I could not believe that they actually did it. Then I realized what I had done and clamped my hand over my mouth but it was too late. The men turned around and saw me. Before they could comprehend who I was, I sprinted past them and jumped out the window. If you ever get to experience true free fall, you should. It is like nothing you can ever imagine. The wind everywhere, it just feels amazing. The feeling was short-lived for me though, I crash landed on an awning over a fruit stand in the market place.
