My eyes flickers open. My vision was blurry, but after I blinked a few times I see the dark, starless night sky. My mind was in a heavy daze. I turn my head to the right and saw my reflection in the black wall. I turned to the left and saw people’s feet, moving fast and slow. My thoughts were interuppted when I heard footsteps approaching.
“Honey, are you all right?”
I lift my upper-body up slowly, but my lower body was still on the ground. My left hand pushed up against the rough ground, until my left arm is straight, supporting my weight. I look up and find myself seeing a woman with heavy makeups on.
“Are you okay?” She asked as she bends down towards me.
I stare at her then to my left again. Most people walk by and mind their own business, but a few stare at me.
“Do you know what’s your name is, sweetie?”
My eyes squinted at her as if she just developed six heads and eight arms. Of course I know my name. My name is Mayu. What’s it with this lady?
“Don’t worry honey, I’m calling the hospital right now.”She stood up straight and start digging into her purse. Her right hand pulled out of her purse, holding onto a pink cellphone. She flipped it open and started dialing the numbers. She put the cellphone near her right ear and turned away from me.
As I slowly rise on my feet I notice a small alley, reaching to the other side of the street. I walk backward slowly, trying not to make a sound with my sneakers. When I was covered in the shadows by the buildings besides me, I make a run for it. For some reason my mind was telling me not to go to the hospital. When I reach to the other side I make a right turn and start walking again. My eyes narrowed when a shot of pain went up my legs. Why does my legs hurt? I walked to the end of the block and made a turn to my left, crossing the street. I continued to walk straight up. What really confuses me is that I can’t remember what I did in the past hour.
