My Realization (last chapter)
"Good morning, Liv," my mother greeted me. She was still in her bath robe with her hair in a towel and she was eating a fried egg.
"Hi mom," I replied sullenly. I was dreading going to school. There wasn't any big test or anything, I just hated school.
I poured myself a glass of orange juice and sat down at the table next to my mom. I lived in a large house with my mom, dad, and three siblings. Just then, my younger brother, Kevin, walked into the room. He was in the 11th grade and loved school. He had more friends then I thought was possible. He was the most popular kid in his grade. So naturally, he walks into the room excited to go to school. And somehow that annoyed me tremendously.
"Hey, Liv!" he said with his annoying grin, "What's the matter?"
"Gosh, Kevin, why must you bother me? You know I don't like going to school..."
"Hey, we only have a few months left," he answered kind've sadly.
"I know," I mumbled.
My dad walked into the room all dressed and ready for work. My younger sisters, Britta, and her twin, Cassie followed behind him. They were identical twins. They both had dark, stick straight red hair and blue/green eyes. Even though they were identical twins, they had very different personalities. Cassie was wearing a flowy tank top and a skirt with sandals and wore her hair down. She had shorter hair then Britta and she had beautiful sideswept bangs. Britta was wearing jeans and a t-shirt with black converse. She wore her hair in a high pony tail. They were were both in the 7th grade.
"Good morning, everybody," my dad said grabbing a cup of coffee.
"Good morning," everyone answered.
I got up, grabbed my Vera Bradley backpack and said, "Okay, well, I'm gonna go wait for the school bus. It should be here in five minutes."
I headed out the door with Kevin, Cassie, and Britta following me. Kevin and I waited for our bus to come while Britta and Cassie waited for their bus to come. When my bus arrived, I hopped on and spotted my friends almost immediately.
"Hi Lissa! Hi Jenne!" I greeted my friends. Lissa and Jenne have been my best friends since the beginning of highschool. Jenne has green eyes and really short, light brown hair. Lissa has shiny, long blonde hair and blue-gray eyes.
"Hey girl!" Jenne said. She noticed my surly expression and said softly, "Hey, today is Friday. Tomorrow there's no school. You, me, and Lissa can go to the mall or something."
I looked at her and smiled, "Sure. That sounds fun!"
We stopped a couple more times to let kids on and we arrived at the school at 7:55am. Just enough time to get to our classes, I thought. We got off and got to our classes just in time.
My first period class is English, which is my favorite subject. It was the only class I actually enjoyed throughout the day. My second period class is Biology, which isn't too bad. Geometry is my worst subject, but the teacher for that class is very patient and willing to help. So it makes that class a little easier to handle.
Finally, after my last class, I went to my locker. I was putting books back into my locker when I glanced to my right and saw him.
"Brody," I whispered breathlessly. He's been my best friend ever since I can remember. We grew up in the same neighborhood. We learned how to talk, ride a bike, and do Algebra together. We did everything together and we knew everything about eachother.
Well, not everything, I suppose. When I was 12, I started liking him. He was my first crush. Now, I'm 17 and I can't say I like him anymore. I love him. I'm IN LOVE with him. As I watched him, tears started welling up in my eyes. I quickly brushed them away before anyone saw.
I resumed putting books into my locker. I tried to ignore the lump in my throat. I don't know why I became sad every time I saw him. We were still the best of friends, but I don't think he'll ever want to be more than that. I wiped my eyes again. I closed my locker and walked out of the school to the school bus.
I arrived home in a crappy mood. I usually came home like that, but today it was worse. I didn't usually see him at school. We don't have any of the same classes, so we rarely see eachother. I hadn't seen him all week and the sight of him made me feel sad. I checked my email, got a snack, then settled down in my room to do my homework. I know, I know. I just got home from school, which I hate, but I don't like to leave homework till the last minute.
Cassie and Britta had already come home and were doing whatever. I didn't know. And Kevin had been on the same bus as me. He's probably working on some assignment that's due in like two months, I thought. I smiled a little. Sometimes Kevin was such a geek when it came to schoolwork. As soon as I finished my work, my mom pulled into our driveway. She came into the house all tired out from working.
"Hello, everyone!" She called. She put her purse down and poured herself a glass of lemonade. I walked into the room.
"Hi mom!" I greeted her, smiling.
"Hey, hon, how was school?" She asked.
"Oh, same as always," I said uninterested in talking about the most miserable hours of my day. Actually, it wasn't the same as always cuz I saw Brody. I hadn't talked to him or anything, but seeing him was the most exciting part of my day.
Kevin walked into the room. He was wearing his reading glasses which meant I was probably right about the assignment that's due in two months. He started talking to my mom about chemistry and how this reacts to this when you mix it and blah blah blah. I went back into my room and starting IMing my friends.
Hey Jenne, I typed.
Hi what's up?, she asked.
I saw Brody today. I saw him; he didn't see me, I typed back.
Well, are you ok, she asked. She and Lissa both knew that I was in love with Brody. They were the only two people in the world.
Yeah, I guess so, thanks for asking, I typed.
Later that night, I lay in my bed thinking what it'd be like to be Brody's girlfriend. I wouldn't want to do anything to destroy our friendship, but I loved him oh-so-much! I cried myself to sleep that night.
