“Bella,” a voice called. It was so familiar but so far away.
“Bella!” the voice called again, this time it was panicking.
Then I realized who it was.
“Parker!!” I screamed.
In front of me stood a young boy with sand colored hair and bright blue eyes. He was so small, only about five or six years old. I looked at him and whispered his name again.
“Parker?” I asked quietly.
“Bella!” he exclaimed, rushing over to me and giving me a huge hug.
This had to be a dream. That thought made me want to cry, and I held the little boy in my arms. Parker was my little brother, but the thing that made me wasn’t to cry was that he was dead.
“Bet you can’t catch me!” he cried, running into the darkness.
“Parker, wait!” I shouted.
I was running as fast as I could, my breathing was labored but I could still see him. He was almost in my reach. I extended my arm to grab him, but in that moment he disappeared.
“No!!” I screamed.
I sat up straight in my bed. My heart was pounding and I was breathing way too fast. It had all been a dream? No, it was so real…Tears poured down my cheeks as I dressed for school. My mom, who had heard my shouts, came in to see what was going on. When she saw my tears she hugged me.
“It was so real….I saw him….” I whispered, knowing she would understand what I meant.
“I know Bella, I know. I miss him too.” My mother said, wiping a tear that descended slowly down my cheek.
I walked down stairs in my jeans and gray sweat shirt, grabbing a pop tart before I walked out the door. My dad nodded to me and wished me a good day before I was able to slip on my Converses and walk out into the pouring rain.
The gray sky matched my mood, promising dreary rain all day. I sighed and searched for my hair elastic, I always hated wearing my raven black hair down, it made me feel weird. As I passed my friends house, I slipped my iPod headphones into my ears. I didn’t hear Casper approach me from behind. When he tapped my shoulder I gasped and jumped.
“Hey Bells.” Casper said with a huge grin.
“Oh it’s only you.” I mumbled.
“Wow that’s comforting.” He said, running a hand through his brown hair.
“Sorry. I had a dream about Parker again.”
Casper fell silent for a moment, knowing I was very sensitive to this subject.
“Are you ok?” he asked, hugging me tight.
I nodded slowly but let my head drop to his chest so I could let a small tear loose without notice.
We continued on in silence after that, walking slowly to the prison that was our school. I saw two blonde cheerleaders screaming at each other with a confused football player standing next to them. I couldn’t help but laugh, they were all so mean to each other, even when they were pretending to be friends. That was why I only had two real friends, Casper and Hollie. When she saw me and Casper walking together, Hollie smiled to herself and walked over, her red hair was straightened today.
“Hello Bella, Casper.” She said with a huge grin.
Hollie had this idea that me and Casper were meant for each other, which really bugged me sometimes. The way we acted half the school thought we were going out anyway but I just avoided the gossip. The bell rang for Homeroom. I groaned inwardly, I could tell this was going to be a very long day.
