I climbed into the car next to him. "You ready baby?" he asked me, kissing my hair.
"Yep." I answered.
He backed out of the driveway, and we hit the road. We were going on our biweekly midnight learning trip. Jimmy wanted to be a professer at a university. We drove a few miles, out to the country.
"This is Amesnac Bridge," he was saying. Our car pulled onto the bridge. We were right in the middle of it when "CRACK!"

The concrete of the bridge, buckled beneath us, it split in two, and we went tumbling into the sloshing water below.

I rolled my window down, and crawled out of the sinking car. I kicked up to the surface of the river, and began to tread water.

"Jimmy!" I screamed, hoping he'd made it out of the car.
"Melissa!" I heard him far away. So he had escaped.
"Jimmy!"
"Melissa!" his voice got farther and farther away, I swam closer to it.
"Jimmy!?! Jimmy!" but this time, he didn't respond.
"I love you!" I hollered, but I knew he didn't hear me. I swam back to the car, and saw that it had sunk. I dived down, and swam back inside. I yanked out the picture of us from graduation, from the mirror, and swam back up.

Sirens lit up the cold black night, and myself, and others who had fallen in, were pulled from the murky depths. I waited at the shoreline until dawn hoping that Jimmy would be found. I had alerted the rescuers. Unfortunately, they came back empty handed. No Jimmy. He must have drowned.
"Go home, kid. Get some sleep. I'm sure he's in a better place now." one of the men said. Then, the rescuers left.

I prowled the water until dark, hoping, that Jimmy would swim up, and say he was alright. He didn't. "Why me, lord, why me?" I asked, as darkness fell over the city. The bridge was being repaired, and the car had drowned, all I had left of Jimmy was the picture. I clutched it tight.

In the picture, our blue robes were caressing out behind us, and we were laughing. My cap was half-way off my head, and Jimmy had his arm around my shoulders.

I looked at the ring on my finger. The ring with "Jim and Mel 4ever" carved along the band. My engagement ring. I was full of sadness.

So I did the only thing I could think of. I sat down on the sand, and cried.
