Her face was a perfect heart, with wide blue eyes and porcelain skin. Her hair was that rare shade of gold that really could be called gold; her neat figure extended to dainty feet that flashed as she danced, and she loved to dance. She had captivated every young man in the capital, though she’d paid none of them any attention. Word had gotten to him that she was in love with a young friend of her brother’s, but that hadn’t been any hindrance in the least. The friend was gone, and wouldn’t be coming back. There was no one and nothing in Harsin’s way.

Ansella returned his piercing gaze. “Untie the cord please, my lord,” she said in a way she obviously hoped was haughty, but sounded more to Harsin like nervousness.

“No,” he said shortly. He undid his cravat and flung it onto the sofa near the fire, then removed his coat and waistcoat, and loosened his shirt, carelessly piling the studs and cufflinks on the mantel.

“What do you mean, ‘no?!’” Ansella demanded, eyes flashing. Harsin smiled; he knew she had a temper, and that meant passion. He was looking forward to turning it against her.
