Kaylee sat down slowly and looked up at Sophie with big, innocent, china blue eyes and said, "Whats wrong with Daddy Sophie?"
Sophie cleared her throat and asked her father the very same question.
Her father sounded tiered and eery as he said it, "Well I am coming out with it straight forward.Your mother and I are getting divorce."
Sophie's mind and body went numb and she stared at the tiniest speck of dirt she found on the carpet. Kaylee, was cluless. She stared at Sophie's face trying to figure out what was going on, just searching for a sign of emotion.
Then, Kaylee asked the question no brother, sister, parent or any adult for that matter wanted to answer. "Whats a divorce Daddy?"
Her father sighed heavily and started to answer. "Well..." But Sophie stopped him.
"No dad, this is something I need to do. I'll explain, I will try to call you back later so you can see how it went, ok?" Sophie's mind was building up bricks of stress, so far now that it almost created the Great wall of China. Yet, her father agreed, said a quick 'I love you' and hung up. This left curious Kaylee sitting next to her, and sympathetic, shocked Robbie across the room to.
Sophie hung her head in sadness and grief, but she still had to explain all of this to Kaylee. So she took a deep but not calming breath and spoke. "Kaylee, a divorce is when two people like mommy and daddy stop living together, forever. You see, it's like a permanent break from each other. We will still them, but just not together, ever again."
Sophie said this as tears filled her ivy eyes, then she couldn't hold them in anymore. She cried. It felt good, she hadn't cried in it seemed forever. Unfortunently, Kaylee also burst out into tears. She huddled in a huge pile on Sophie's lap, making her jeans watery. Robbie watching this flat faced, came over to them then gave them a long hug, and they stayed there for what seemed like hours on end just eeking out their emotions through tears.
Then Kaylee choked out the words, "So they don't love eachother anymore? Thats it?! They were together forever and now they'll be gone forever. It's NOT fair Sophie!!!"
Sophie sniffed, wiped her drenched face and said the words that made as much sense as the situation, "I know, it's not fair."
