"raven! please raven, come back!" cried my mother as i slipped through the crowed bar towards the entrance."i will change and everything will be okay! i promise!"
i stopped as i reached the door that would lead me to my future, wondering if this time she would change who she was just so me and her wouldn't be alone in the world. but i thought back to all the times i held her hair as she swung her head over the toilet to puke, and turned back and looked at her from under my baseball cap to say,
"your promises don't mean anything to me anymore."
i opened the door and walked away from the sound of my mothers sobs to meet my best friend Kia out by main street.
she wore a black tank top under her thin white jacket and had her fire red hair pulled back into a pony tail. her bangs were the only things that were covering her face in the lunar light of the moon that just hung over my sleeping hometown of Ski Side. her torn blue jeans clung to her hips and short legs as she walked forward.
"raven, you know you can go back. maybe this time she 'will' change." she said in her soft, high pitched voice.
"no." i said as we stood face to face just a few inches away from each other."i cant go back.and i never will have regrets from this day forward."
Kia nodded in understanding and took my hand."it will be okay.i made it. i know you can to."
so, walking towards the tragic light side by side, i thought to myself as i felt the cool, warm breeze of summer caress my arms and face.'i will never be alone.'

"raven?" i heard kia whisper in my ear. "raven. come on get up. the tigers are coming."
i groaned aloud as i hear soft paws hit the dead leaves of the forest floor."why now? cant a girl get some sleep without having anything interrupt her?"
i heard kia's soft laugh as i sat up and stretched my arms over my head. we were somewhere in south east Asia. not exactly sure were, but it was warm and the moon was still at the highest point in the starry sky.
kia pulled me to my feet and we looked around. trees, trees and more trees.
"hum."i said as we both turned out eyes south."where to next?"
kia was silent for a few seconds then said."i don't know. its your turn to choose."
i stood there in the dark forest with my friend as the tigers got closer. thinking fast i said,"north." and then we ran.
my legs were tiered and still a little stiff, but they carried me far and fast. i was grateful.
just as the sun was peeking over the horizon, we reached the end of the forest. fresh out of breath and mouths as dry as the hottest desert, we saw a little town at the bottom of the hill and decided to check it out.
as we came to the first building a few little girls ran down the road towards us. they had terror stuck on their faces and their eyes were red from what seemed to be tears. me and kia looked at them in confusion and suddenly saw 5 men come around the corner and watched as they grabbed one of the girls by the arm. about 7 others blocked our vision and moved in on the girl.
"please no! don't do this just leave her alone!" called the other two from behind a car just a few feet away.
"shut up! or you will be next!" i heard one of the men say.
i turned toward kia and saw the look of anger on her face. she had been abused by her dad when she was 6 after her mother left him for some other guy. and she wasn't liking this one bit.but before i could stop her, she screamed,
"hay, you worthless pice of scrap medal! i would sudjest you let her go! now!"
the men turned their heads and their eyes went wide as kia charged forward with her fists in the air.
i ran after her at first but saw one of the men reach out and grab her from behind and throw her to the ground like she was nothing but a child.turning my back on kia, i ran at the man, he reached for me to but i moved out of the way and swung my leg up and forward catching him right in the chin. he howled in pain and surprise as i ran for the little girl that was now laying on the ground face in the road...pinned there by the one who had grabbed her.
tears where streaming down her dirty face and her boy cut hair was matted and frizzy. she looked hopeless and weak. skinny and a twig under the big man that laid on her with what looked like 400 pounds. i snapped.
i ran straight for him, unaware of the hands that pulled me back to the ground. i felt the air leave my lungs and couldn't get it back. tears of surprise filled my gray-blue eyes but i didn't make a sound. i looked up and over to the girl....she wasn't there. i lifted my head a bit more and saw she was running away with her friends. i watched as they disappeared around the corner in confusion. suddenly, sounds from fists hitting flesh came to me. i turned my head in the direction and saw a hooded figure grab one of the men by the shirt.
"i have had about enough of your crap joe." came a deep, smooth voice from under the hood."you think you can just come here and do whatever the hell you want? well your wrong."
i caught my breath in a big sigh and started to get tunnel vision. but before everything turned black, i saw the hooded figure toss the man to the side like he was a rag doll and look at me, or at least in my direction. then...my world went black.
