Thirty five years together, Angie stared hard at the pretty bedside table they had found at a garage sale last year. How could she live without Trudy?
There had been no warning. They had watched a movie and Trudy was too tired to play cards or take their evening walk. Now Trudy was so heavy, and the cellphone on the table was so far away. Angie scrabbled with her single, tiny arm to try to pull their conjoined bodies across the bed. She made a little progress.
The smell was awful, and she was getting cold, so cold.
