The first time I saw Isabele Silveira passing the hostel in Bahia, Brazil, I thought about beauty and about the ocean. I certainly did not think about cooking. And who could blame me? The dark, thin girl was currying a surfboard on her shoulder, heading for the beach. My husband and my son would have said she was pretty, but I was alone.
