I hate it when that happens. Damned fugitives. They always try to get away in time. They never remember, these 'criminal masterminds', that the devices we use make such holes in time that it's like tracking an angry bear in downtown Manhattan.
*Sshhhh*
I follow him. Sometimes I think life would be easier if someone just jumped back and destroyed the prototype and all the notes, and no one would ever travel through time. But of course, that can't happen. Continuity and all. That's why we're here. The government's secret branch of time police.

Oh please. You are never going to lose me in a marketplace in Constantinople. At least he's smart. He's wearing the most non-descript clothing possible, easy to fit in as a lower class citizen in almost any time frame. All government agents dress in a similar fashion.
He sees me, and runs, knocking people down as he goes.
The first step is to catch the guy. We only know when they _are_, not when they _were_, but each device knows when it's been, and by interfacing with it, I can see when the first unsanctioned jump was.

I'm getting closer now. Each jump he makes I zero in on when and where he is. Once I get him back, I can prevent him from ever jumping, and thetimeline will work out the kinks on its own.
*FWOOMSshhhh*
I have him.
"FEDERAL AGENT! STOP WHERE YOU ARE!"
He stops and slowly turns. I check my device. This can't be right. It shows that here, _now_, is his first unsanctioned jump. The fugitive has finished slowly turning as I look up from the device.
I recognise the face.
I know it well.
I run.
