A Flock of Souls
It is said that small birds hold
the souls of the recently departed;
So from the deck of my house
I greeted a hundred or two,
who with a great whoosh and chirping
settled on the ash's bare limbs,
those who had left their ashes behind.
Were they sparrows,
on whom the eye of the Lord rests?
Or wrens,
rebuilding with their nests
A City engulfed with flames,
as a Wren with his Saint Paul?
Another city, another time,
There a cathedral, here a chapel,
each unharmed by the pilots of Hate,
As their small birds give wing to Love
and a farewell trip for the souls
on their way to Heaven.

This poem is just lovely. It explains why we write without becoming arrogant.

I (and I think a lot of us on this site) have felt what you've expressed in this poem...but you have expressed it so very eloquently.

Being a chocholate addict, I totally agree with the sentiment of this poem.
