The fireflies gone
To where fireflies go
Post midsummer
Amethystine shadows
Flutter near the garage
And the cloven, moon-edged air
Is no longer a barrier
Between here and
Backfield trees.
You are out east.
Our sons on their bicycles
Sluice across the cobblestones
In front of your mother’s house.
You will reach home in two days.
You are like the sleeping birds
Tangible across the separated atmosphere
Of our backyard’s ether.

That is lovely, RA! And so sweet! I've never read a poem by someone whose background story I kinda "know." It made it a lot more poignant. V
