Running. She was running through the dark empty streets of ----. Her heart was pounding; she turned her head and saw it chasing her. Then she thrust out her hand and a ball of flames was thrown out towards her assailant. It burst into flames and started screaming. –Driing- Screaming. –Driing- Screaming. –Driing-...
I propped myself up onto my elbows and stared at the alarm clock waiting for my eyes to focus. 7:30 Am. I slumped down again and let the ringing continue to wake me up while I thought of my recurring dream. Each time, I thought to my self, I wake up when it starts to scream... –thump- A pillow thrown from the other side of the room hit me square in the face.
“Turn that bloody thing off!” a voice shouted.
I threw off my sheets and stood up, while my sister glared at me through dull grey eyes that you could feel burn right through you. I smiled and walked out of my bedroom, or rather the bedroom that I shared with my older sister Georgia, and walked to the bathroom with the sounds of the usual insults from Georgia following me.
As I methodically showered and blow dried my hair, I thought about my dream. About the wonder of the creature I saw almost every night as I restlessly slept. About the way it screamed with such terror that filled me with a horror and fascination that I couldn’t describe. And, although from the moment I’d first dreamt it I’d had sealed my fate unknowingly, I couldn’t ever shake the image of the burning creature with such horror and grief, I had to know more.
