description:
In the future, love is all but forgotten. The kids and teens know practically nothing about love, since the adults try so hard not to talk about it. The American Empire is at war with other parts of the world, and teens and children are trained to become warriors. Depending on what color of hair you have, you are assigned to one of the four positions: Attacker, Defender, Stealth Squadder, or Tormentor.
Jonas, a Stealth Squadder, is in love with one of his roommates, Lila, a Defender. He feels that the only way to show his love for Lila is to save her from having to go and fight, where she could get killed. Too bad that's the dream she's been working towards her whole life.
When things don't go according to plan and Jonas gets sent off to fight, Lila realizes that he is something different, special. Along with the help of their other roommate Maddi, a clumsy, overly cheerful, ditsy Tormentor, Lila escapes from the training camp in search of Jonas and the meaning of life and love.

Chapter 6-Lila
Jonas sighed. “Yes Lila, I’m still up.”
“Think we’ll do good tomorrow?” Lila asked hopefully. Again.
“Yes Lila,” Jonas repeated for the 16th time, “Everything’s gonna be fine.”
He could see Lila frown from the opposite bunk. “How can you be so sure? Anything could happen with the Director around! Jonas,” she paused, “I have to get recruited.”
Lila’s deep blue eyes, usually sparkling with pride and determination, were clouded over with anxiousness.
Wincing, Jonas thought of what he would have to do tomorrow. If my plan succeeds, he thought, Lila’s dreams will shatter, and she will be safe.
“Oh, I just ... I just know that things will be fine.”
“Hmm...”
He had never seen Lila so worried before. She was usually so confident and cocky about the Practices. But tomorrow was no ordinary Practice. The Director would be there, watching us and evaluating everyone’s battling potential. Those who were good enough to fight for the American Empire would be Recruited and sent off to war.
Everyone knew that Lila was the best Defender in this camp. She was a rubber band that bounced back and forth, dodging an Attacker one second, taking out a Stealth Squadder the next. No one could take her out.
No one but Jonas.
