PITTSBURGH, PA – July 9, 2008 – What do you get when you cross an emotionally distressed Catholic priest, a jilted lover, and striking images of the supernatural? The answer: Jeff LeJeune’s latest novel, Postmarked Baltimore. In his second novel, Mr. LeJeune, a resident of Lake Charles, LA, takes the reader on an emotional journey through the eyes of Father Perry Burns, a Catholic priest whose story begins when he receives a letter from his ex-lover on New Years Eve.

Postmarked Baltimore deals with the complicated nature of love and the obstacles that people face when forced to make a hard decision. "This book is an exploration of what destruction can occur when religion and love are divided and what limitless happiness the merging of them can produce," says Mr. LeJeune. "It is a story for anyone on a faith journey, a journey I believe everyone is on, whether religion is outwardly expressed or not."

The novel, according to the author, was originally envisioned as something completely different from the final product. Mr. LeJeune explains, "It was going to be a short play, entitled A Gentleman Named Lucifer. The play never got off the ground, but I was still intrigued by the idea of the bad voice in our heads posing as the good voice. I changed my course of thought and wrote the story as a novel instead. The mysterious stranger in Father Burns’ study is the same ‘gentleman’ I started out with in the original play."

Despite what the title may tell you about the book, Mr. LeJeune incorporates his home state of Louisiana into his main character. Mr. LeJeune explains, "The main character is from Louisiana and attended LSU before he moved to Baltimore." Mr. LeJeune furthers the connection between his home state and the protagonist, saying, "Even though the protagonist moves to Baltimore to become a teacher, he remembers his days growing up in Louisiana, especially those concerning his relationship with his parents and brother, his work on his father’s farm, and his high school playing days in basketball and football."

Publisher and CEO of SterlingHouse Publisher Dr. Cynthia Sterling believes the novel appeals to Christians and non-Christians alike, saying, "This book is about human relationships and trusting your instincts, which is something everyone struggles with whether you are religious or not. Postmarked Baltimore will have everyone talking. I’m thrilled for Jeff; this one is a real winner."

Mr. LeJeune recognizes the potential controversy his book may cause and firmly believes that the healthy questioning of taboo topics can be a positive experience. "I intend no ill-will toward Catholicism or its priests in this book; in fact, I am celebrating the fact that the priesthood is such a sacrifice that it takes a special man to live it truthfully. If my book can stir up a healthy debate amongst readers, then I feel I have succeeded in my purpose."
