Well, this is very obviously the beginning of my story. It's from the point of view of a girl named Cata. Anyway, yay, here it is!

I first saw her when I was out on an errand. It was a warm day, the sun beating down on my face. My eyes had to squint to see anything at all, for the sun shined so brightly. People were bustling about Akrani, as they always did, and I was pushed about a few times. But there, at the gate, was a girl. She was around my age, perhaps a year younger. She was small, but her face revealed more years than her body did. Her hair was pulled back, and she wore a white dress that seemed dirtied from traveling. At her side, she had a brown leather pouch, the sort that most people use for carrying money. I thought that it was odd that she had it on so casually here – in such a large city even, it was very likely to get lost.
I saw that she seemed to be engaged in argument. She was standing at the gate to the city, barred by a couple of guards. She seemed to be rather confused, making small gestures with her hands. The guards almost seemed to be laughing at her, appalling me. Why was it that they laughed at her? Why were they in an argument?
And then it dawned on me – the girl must have been trying to get into the city, but she had no pass or anything of that sort. Nobody was allowed into Akrani without a pass, because the government was committed to keeping this particular city safe. There weren’t that many things that needed to be kept out, as far as I knew, but they were measures that needed to be taken.
But as I saw this girl attempting at entering Akrani, clearly with no ill intentions, I couldn’t help but feel that these measures were ridiculous. Why really were they there? Why could they not let an innocent girl into this place, where she so clearly needed to be? It was ridiculous, for there was no point. Why must they keep all the world away, to shelter us? I didn’t want to be kept from life, from the planet. I felt myself surge with anger suddenly – I wanted the girl to be able to get in, and I wanted to be able to see what else that there was in the world.
I saw that the girl at the gate had turned away, apparently resigned. She had her head hung low, and I watched her as she disappeared from view, weaving into the crowd of traders coming and going into Akrani, ready to sell their wares. After she had gone, I stood where I was for a moment, cradling the brown paper bag that I held in my arms.
After a moment, I turned around, and began to weave my way back home. The girl that I had seen earlier continued coming back to me, and I couldn’t keep her from my head. And by chance, I turned around. Oddly, I saw a confused looking trader, fumbling his cart about. As the trader’s head was turned the other way, I saw a hand pull itself out of where it was in the cart. Then I saw another hand followed by an entire body. I gaped. It was the girl that I had seen earlier, arguing with the guards. Clearly, she had found a way into Akrani without getting caught. After having climbed out of the cart I saw that the girl turned and waved happily to the confused trader, and continued on her way. That confused me. How had she managed to come all the way here in the trader’s cart, without the man noticing that the weight had changed? And how had he not seen her crawl out, or notice the difference. Everyone in the crowd seemed to be oblivious to this fact as well, and continued on their way.
