I have wanted to tell the highlights of my life in an interesting
manner; especially the interesting parts. I have started several times with starts and stops...over one or more decades. Sometimes, I feel that a chapter of my life is concluded, and should be added to my personal story, which I started when I was twenty; ti is kind of like those book reports in school. If you kept up with the homework, you could sail on through, and write as you read your favorite books...I loved to read, even in High School, and could get lost in a book for days.

What I did not realize, even though my old journals from that time show it to anyone who tries to follow the broken paragraphs in the earlier journals, that I was not an effective writer, and struggled with(or avoided) writing until I was in my mid-thirties...after I decided to go to college at the age of 35, and I discovered that I was limited to short sentences; not really effective at writing essays at the junior college level.

I was dysfunctional in writing, and had hid it from everyone, including myself. I found a voice in the electronic media, and an outlet to learn to type, at a rate of speed closer to my thoughts; as it was my thoughts that dictated words to my clumsy hands. The
fingers could never keep up with what I wanted to say on paper...I used my talents at memorizing/visualizing to ace the college tests, while ignoring math and other such non-sense.

When my son was tested with numbers, someone said that he showed evidence of dysgraphia, or dyslexia with numbers. My mind flashed back to the hours I spent on long division homework, or multiplication tables beyond the twelves; the tables I was proud to memorize. An undiagnosed writing disorder...along with bi-polar; time to go find work for someone who was semi-literate. My second son fared worse, because he lacked the skills to memorize, and there were no other incentives for him to excel in school, than to take away his chances for a driver's license. Sorry Joe, the world is not a friendly place for non-writers/homework doers; or those who do the work and fail to turn in their completed assignments.

My advice to anyone who struggles to write, is to find a subject about which your greatest passion lies. If you cannot finish paragraphs, start a blog...or several hundred blogs. Raise your voice and wield your keyboard...make sure that someone out there is listening. Find a cause worth living for; it is worth it, and you will find yourself in much better company. Change the MATRIX, and find others to join in the game. It truly is worth the effort.
