With Eros’ blood are souls all filled above
Handle them but gently; mine untangle
Carefully; for it strangles every heartbeat
Sorrow constrains love, its bud is mangled
My tyrant soul too long with no defeat…
Escape from this human nature most drear
Is mind’s sole desire; mine has been that eye
When shown our sickly lusts, deaths, closes in fear
So drain my soul’s heavenly lifeblood dry
And for the final cleansing rite
Destroy my soul… hold it up to the light
